Shanahan has always tried to be the smartest guy in the room. Kyle J will get more touches in an upcoming game.

Shannhan gonna scheme TF outta CMC, I reckon SF plays KC this week. Gotta think he will be out there in some capacity

Initial report is red zone package. CMC 5 carries, 5 catches, 50 yards, 5 TDs

My life in TD guillotine depends on CMC playing

That’s a heavy pick compensation for CMC, you’d think he’d be thrown in there this week

Trade was done last night. They've gameplanned all week without him. If he spends today traveling to SF he really only has Saturday to get ready. And don't they usually not practice on Saturdays?

Exactly. Anyone expecting CMC to get 20+ touches this Sunday will probably be disappointed. There just simply isn't enough time. The game plan is in place.

He'll probably get some work but I don't think it will be his usual monster workload. He may see the field just enough to render Jeff Wilson unusable this week too (his last week of relevance). I'd be very worried if I had either in my starting lineup this week.

He doesn’t need 20+ touches. He wasn’t even averaging that in Carolina this season.

They don’t play til 3:25 Sunday. That’s a lot of time to install some high value touches for mccaffrey. I don’t see either side resting because they’ve installed a game plan already. Both sides are intelligent enough to make this work in a short period of time

I already have CMC benched, didn’t think he’d play at all. Seems risky to start him (my roster is pretty good so I can be risk averse)

Does feel like a game where they’d try and get him into the endzone though.

they schemed a WR to the tune of 59 rush att 365 yards and 8 TDs last year. 6.2 yards a pop and a TD on 14% of the rush attempts.

Will be an interesting situation to watch. The main impact is going to hit the pass catchers there who already don’t see the volume they should

Fair points Gyno. Here is the latest update:

quote:

Schultz said McCaffrey, who was traded to the Niners on Thursday night, would not see a full complement of snaps but would be used around the end zone. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that he had considered drawing up some red zone plays for his newly-acquired RB1. CMC drafters will probably have to start him against Kansas City if he suits up for lack of better options on their bench or the waiver wire. Jeff Wilson could retain some fantasy appeal if McCaffrey is going to be used this week on a (very) limited basis

Deebo also takes a hit here, he won’t have those easy RB touches anymore

Eh I dunno if that's a given. I know Deebo was really efficient with his RB touches last year, but he also got way less receptions after that point, which are more valuable than rush attempts. If it means he gets less carries, but more receptions, it could be a good thing.

Also, CMC should help the offense have more success and be on the field more. Defenses will want to put more in the box to stop him and open up more passing lanes. Obviously, CMC will demand more targets than the other RBs, which could come from the WRs. We shall see.

Matt Ryan out in Indy, Ehlinger named starter going forward. What does this do for Pittman/Pierce/Taylor?
