Not any more.
I had a completely different experience when I was up there a month ago. They city and neighborhoods look run downed. It was so sad to see the place I grew up looking so seedy and sad.

Are you talking about the Shreveport bossier area or the whole state?

The combined Shreveport skyline and Bossier casino skyline looks pretty awesome driving in on I-20 west at night.
Shreveport has a great road system. Interstate 49 from I-20 to the industrial loop is the best, highest quality, and properly planned stretch of interstate in Louisiana.
But Shreveport is still a crime shithole.

I'd move back to the Shreveport area in a heartbeat. I wouldn't live in town per se, but north of town seems like a nice area around Caddo Lake.

ep, that Red River keeps Bossier folks from crossing over to Shreveport, I guess.
I know you're joking, but it does. Bossier residents are a WEIRD bunch. Most of them I know have a strange superiority complex and make it seem like crossing that river brings them from the Woodlands to a 3rd world country. I have on friend who posts things like, "making the trip all the way to Shreveport to watch my kid play soccer...worth it I guess."
A ton I know spend their life eating at fricking Beaujax and drinking at flying heart cause they never want to cross into Shreveport....nothing makes me laugh harder than that local quirk

Baton Rouge is Shreveport with LSU.
That's pretty fair. I've never argued otherwise though.

An old buddy of mine who lives in BR had this conversation recently. I asked him besides LSU, what's something that Baton Rouge has that Shreveport doesn't? Now we know there's a few things. My point is if you have a family and are in the few lines of work that you can be successful in Shreveport is not near as bad when compared to other cities in Louisiana.
Cross Lake is easy to get to
Norton Art Gallery is always having awesome movie nights and family functions
Aquarium
The Revel, Mudbug Madness
Municipal Auditorium draws cool musicians b/c of it's history
Multiple farmers markets
2 Breweries
Growing food truck scene
We have a few really good restaurants that have popped up in the past few years (Fat Calf, Zuzul, Ki Mexico)
Unless there's a wreck no traffic issues
Very good public school options
3 hours from BR, Hot Springs, and Dallas
Does the grass need to be cut and trash picked up. Hell yes, but that's all over the state.

I just don’t care for regional location. Every metro area has its ghetto and negative aspects.
Happy in Lafayette being 4 hours from Houston and 2 from NOLA. 5 hours from beaches.
Was born in the black hole that is central Mississippi and so glad I didn’t get stuck there.

Shreveport has a loop.
That makes it better than Barren Rudge.

Nah, my old friends post pictures of themselves in Shreveport every night. shite, many work there.
But you're right on one thing, it's changed quite a bit. Since the central area for bars (the square) disappeared there really isn't much to cross the river for, besides some food, maybe.

yep. Compared to the 70's or 80's, its disgusting.
I'm near retirement. I grew up in Bossier but have lived in DFW the last 40 years or so. I spoke with a Shreveport fireman recently and his direct quote (which hit home) was "Don't retire here. This aint the same place you grew up in". If it were, I would probably come back "home"!

Here’s the general consensus of the OT when considering life in a Louisiana metro area:
Imo, Shreveport is probably on a par with Lafayette as family-friendly.
New Orleans is a horribly mixed-bag, even having money doesn’t cure some of its warts. But it would make it do-able.
Baton Rouge is behind that, without LSU being there it would be untenable.

Which is kinda sad, because Shreveport was a retirement haven a few decades ago. The Base had a lot to do with that too.
I go back every few years and its always even more disappointing. I was one of Shreveports biggest cheerleaders in the 80's.

North Bossier > Shreveport. By a mile. Shreveport is dying, and its not slow. Bossier probably will follow suit soon enough.

N. Bossier Traffic is pathetic. They had years to manage that growth and dropped the ball.
