The problem with Shreveport is that it wants to be Dallas, but is light years behind and in a state that itself has a unique identity.
Also contributing is that it shuns its neighbor of Bossier that it also loses population to. Speaking of population, it annexed too much city in the 80s and 90s chasing tax base, and now it has to support a larger footprint with city services all while the children of the annexed areas haven’t returned after leaving, losing a whole/half generation of economic momentum. It additionally has too much generational wealth sitting on the sideline from a civic involvement-standpoint. It has a relatively interesting architectural downtown that is a ghost town because its buildings are holding space on some family trust’s balance sheet.
It needs to understand that its only way to survive is as a region. Turn the Texas street bridge into a pedestrian bridge. Build residential living in the old buildings, commercial space on the Bossier side. Let go of their pearls and allow some semblance of a nightlife downtown. Let go of Texas, embrace its Louisiana. Let Forbing secede, and cut your losses. What am I missing?
Very good post.

Loved the old Stoner Park amphitheater. Saw some concerts there.
I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn there as well as a ton of local bands. Roger, if you do Facebook there is a "Shreve Square in Eighties" page. People post all sorts of pictures and stories from that time.

If you can't find a watering hole to suit your personal tastes in Shreveport then you are either blind or just a miserable human. I picked up my tankard from the Savage earlier this week, sad to see it close again and hope they find new owners soon.

To be fair, most of the people I know IRL that shite on Shreveport are actually from Shreveport.
I have lived in this area most of my life, I tried to defend it for a long time.
It is indefensible at this point. We live in Blanchard and I dont let my wife or kids drive to Shreveport after dark, rarely in the daylight. I hate it and it saddens me but it is a shithole and I cant see any improvement in the future.
Kind of like the State.

t still is.
I had a work dinner at 2Johns this week and immediately remembered why I never go to Bossier.
Took like 20 minutes to go that 1 mile down Airline.

Shreveport has a great road system. I-49 and I-20, the 3132 and 220 expressways, the scenic Clyde Fant Parkway on the river and a lot of four lane roads without an annoying number of traffic lights. I don’t know how anyone in Shreveport complains about traffic.

Whats up neighbor.

I agree.

this kind of thought combined w/ the idiots who say SHV/BR/NOLA are better than Dallas are the biggest jokes of all time.
After 8 pages of a few people ATTEMPTING to prop up the 318, there's MAYBE a total of 15 places listed worth enjoying in the entire Shreveport area.
You can find 3-4x that in downtown + uptown Dallas right now. All with better service, parking, amenities, & working + client talent. Then start adding in the M Streets, Lower Greenville, Upper Greenville, Park Cities, Victory Park, Northpark, Deep Ellum, & we're not even outside the Loop yet. That's 7 areas that all, on their own, out provide options for each Shreveport, Bossier, BR, most of Lafayette, & Mandeville/Northshore.
People that post claims of Dallas sucking or being worse than practically any area of LA need to be put on a 72 hour psych hold.
