N. Bossier Traffic is pathetic. They had years to manage that growth and dropped the ball.
While a agree, it hasn't gotten bad yet. Crouch Rd. extension to Swan Lake will help but not much.

After some ponder, I envision the entirety of what is currently fields b/w 220 and Benton as thousands of 1500sf tract houses on .15-.2acre lots, 3-story apartment complexes, nail salons, strip malls, community churches, neighborhood wal-marks and hadji-owned "pak-a-sak" gas stations, with possibly a new Party Central go-cart track thrown in some where. Need some Sect 8 in there, too.

I was more a Sportspage Club person. Steamboat Annies, etc.

The afterparties are when the party favors showed up. They'd clear the place, open an hour later as a speakeasy.

Ever heard of Huddie Leadbetter or the Louisiana Hayride? For people in the know Shreveport has a significant musical past.

Up to late 80's there was a lot to enjoy in Shreveport/Bossier. The parkway was full of people having fun, the Square kicked arse (its still one of the better bar districts I have seen) the amphitheater, professional football, great concerts, fantastic outdoor opportunities. Even Bossier had the Strip which flourished until the late 70's.

Almost every bit of that is gone, except the hunting/fishing. It looks like a dead zone now.

Its always been this way. Shreve Square should have installed a ski jump in the 80's with so much white powder.

People that down vote this were never there in the Square.

Did not know.
Pretty swampy back there, used to hunt that area.

I know you're joking, but it does. Bossier residents are a WEIRD bunch. Most of them I know have a strange superiority complex and make it seem like crossing that river brings them from the Woodlands to a 3rd world country. I have on friend who posts things like, "making the trip all the way to Shreveport to watch my kid play soccer...worth it I guess."

A ton I know spend their life eating at fricking Beaujax and drinking at flying heart cause they never want to cross into Shreveport....nothing makes me laugh harder than that local quirk

It used to be the other way around.

It still is.

I had a work dinner at 2Johns this week and immediately remembered why I never go to Bossier.

Took like 20 minutes to go that 1 mile down Airline.

Loved the old Stoner Park amphitheater. Saw some concerts there.

Appropriately named..

The problem with Shreveport is that it wants to be Dallas, but is light years behind and in a state that itself has a unique identity.

Also contributing is that it shuns its neighbor of Bossier that it also loses population to. Speaking of population, it annexed too much city in the 80s and 90s chasing tax base, and now it has to support a larger footprint with city services all while the children of the annexed areas haven’t returned after leaving, losing a whole/half generation of economic momentum. It additionally has too much generational wealth sitting on the sideline from a civic involvement-standpoint. It has a relatively interesting architectural downtown that is a ghost town because its buildings are holding space on some family trust’s balance sheet.

It needs to understand that its only way to survive is as a region. Turn the Texas street bridge into a pedestrian bridge. Build residential living in the old buildings, commercial space on the Bossier side. Let go of their pearls and allow some semblance of a nightlife downtown. Let go of Texas, embrace its Louisiana. Let Forbing secede, and cut your losses. What am I missing?

Eta. Lean into its heritage as a musical crossroads more.

Shreveport is a great place to raise a family. The idea that anyone from BR or New Orleans has the gall to crap on Shreveport for its crime is laughable. Show me the mid sized city in the south that only has good parts of town…I’ll wait.

It's 2h 45m from my house in Dallas to my parent's driveway in Shreveport, including the Buc-ee's stop. Baton Rouge was a solid 4, with a meat pie stop of course

Absolutely correct, its a nightmare.

Man, y’all are a tad dramatic. NoBo traffic is heavy at certain times of the day (true) but have you spent any time in say…. Lafayette rush hour on Johnston or Ambassador Caff ?!? You can’t escape that shat! At least in NoBossier there’s north 220 loop that you can easily hop on. Lafayette has nothing but congested Airline Dr type arteries. The Laffy road system looks like it was designed by a damn 5 year old. I’m bitching about it cause I’m there routinely for work & certain times of day are indeed a nightmare down there. While it’s not saying much compared to Texas, SHV/Bossier has the best road infrastructure in our state & it’s not even close.

The problem is, it really did nothing to build upon it.

I like the way Shreveport is laid out as a city for its size, though

Thanks. After years of being one of those South Shreveport kids that never came back, I decided I’d at least try to be constructive with my criticisms.
