I am averaging about 1 hour and half lately. To me any wait over 30 minutes is too long. They fine no shows and complain big time is you are 15 minutes late then you wait often for hours.

I guess they are having staff issues too, but waiting in a crowded waiting. room, in crap chairs and a bunch of sick people with screaming, snotty nosed kids running all over the place for hours in damn mask, (even though i have been vaccinated and had the damn booster) is starting to get old.

I have had people get losses at me and yell at me for having to wait 45 minutes (Receptionist forgot to tell me they were waiting, they were late so I assumed no show) Why the exception for waiting at doctors office ?

Because they have your copay already, so they have no incentive to be fast or efficient.

My doctor sees his "well" patients in the morning and his sickies in the afternoon. Being almost 70 and having to visit the doc 2 or 3 times a year for check-ups, I appreciate the move on his part.

I'm more forgiving of my doc because there's no way to accurately predict how long an appointment will take when they're booking them. And the staff is very efficient and up front about delays when they occur.

Also factored into this patience is how long she spends with me without ever making me feel rushed AND how I can almost always get worked in if I need something urgently.

No idea how I'd feel at another doc with different practice management or bedside manner, but I definitely don't take my situation for granted.

Find a place (if they even exist in your area) that doesn't take walk-ins. These scumbags are what cause all the issues. They're basically sticking them in front of you.

The secret is early appointments or right after lunch break. Most of my waits are minimal at my main doctors. The eye doctor historically is always super behind.

I've told here before that my Pops had ALS. Most all of the doctors we dealt with throughout were really good.

His pulmonary doctor was especially good. In his office, at the sign-in window was a sign that read, "If your wait is longer than fifteen minutes, please let us know and we will address it." We never waited longer than fifteen minutes. They never overbooked appointments, and there was never more than three or four patients in his office at any time, and it was a shared office with a gastroenterologist.

Compare that to his neurologist. He was a great doc in his own right, but the wait times were very long. It wasn't due to poor management, though. The man and his staff took more time with patients and their families than any doctor I have ever seen. It did result in longer waits, but he was not going to end the appointment unless you were completely comfortable and had your questions answered.

I've always had long waits at the Dr.'s office until a couple of years ago. I never have more than a 10 minute wait or so with my PCP. I had an ortho surgery awhile back, and had at least 4 appointments with them and never had to wait long at all with them either. Maybe I've just been lucky.

15 minutes and I inquire about the wait. 30 minutes and I inform them that I am leaving.

i raised holy hell with them once when they scheduled me for 11am and at 12:30 i demanded to know what the hold up is, the girl, not thinking apparently, said the doctor doesnt get in until 1pm she said he likes to have a full waiting room when he gets there so he can maximize his time the best

now i make sure i never get any apt before 1pm and rarely wait more then 30 minutes now. if you ask the right questions you can figure out how to save yourself some time.
