What's the story with LA Tech?

Thamel and McMurphy reporting that MTSU and WKU likely to the MAC.
Let me preface this by saying I don't know anything about the LA university/sports scene, but, I figured they would have been picked up by somebody. While it sucks for UTEP and FIU, its not really a shock. LA Tech being left behind seems strange to me (granted as an outsider). I've seen the back and forth bickering on a few message boards but is there something larger at play that is keeping them out of all of the conversations? Or is this one of those did it to themselves scenarios?

According to their AD they will move up to the level of the SWAC.

The first thing we need to do is fire Skip Holtz. Like yesterday.

Louisiana is a poor arse welfare state that brings nothing to the table for these conferences
Thank your government

Also La Tech was hoping to keep the conference alive with 6 teams.

What was the consensus on McClelland as AD? Did he leave it in a better place or is he just an empty suit?

Dr. Wood seems to be a major upgrade. He’s got his work cutout for him.

ESPN attempted the same thing with the Big 12 but those universities had enough resources to hold the line. CUSA had no shot. frick the Mouse’s meddling when they have some of the worsts broadcasts in CFB.

Yea there is bad blood between the fans of Tech - ULL/ULM but that was squashed by Jim Henderson and the UL System leadership among the administrations. Tommy has departed and is no longer an AD. Fans hold way more animosity towards each other than the leadership does. You can say Tech should’ve joined the Sun Belt years ago but that is idiotic. Joining the WAC and C-USA were the right moves at the time. Tech has the highest basketball winning percentage, second highest football winning percentage and third highest baseball winning percentage in C-USA since joining. Tech was failed by Conference USA leadership, specifically Judy.
This gets regurgitated by LaTech fans often. But LaTech’s leadership was the CUSA board president for the past two years. He rebuked the proposal of regional reorganization between the SBC and CUSA.
ESPN can be blamed, but there were other factors in play as well.

Did you create an account just to tell people they are going to the SWAC? You do this every time something is posted about LA Tech.

I hate it when politicians get involved with things like college athletics, but it’s part of the game.
Louisiana politicians have really dropped the ball with Tech being left out to dry, and the Southland Conference facing extinction.
Louisiana Tech, Northwestern, Southeastern, Nicholls, and McNeese are all about to be in purgatory.
Maybe the bigger issue is the University of Louisiana System that oversees all the colleges outside the LSU and Southern system. Contraction and consolidation has been needed for a long time, and for reasons other than their Athletic Departments.
Maybe sports is what will finally get the ball rolling. We have too many universities in this state.

So you are saying that the Chair doesn't allow every one else on the board to vote? Because of they all voted and it didn't pass, I'm not sure how that falls on him

Let me get this straight, the AAC and SBC do not want Tech. So the other options besides being an independent are the Mountain West conference and the MAC?

I think Tech's only chances are AAC and MWC pending a Boise/Memphis move.
Or backfilling an SBC school heading to the AAC after Memphis leaving. Although the only SBC school I can see leaving would be Georgia State as they were courting the AAC pretty hard, and being in Atlanta.

I just think it's funny that all these teams moving from CUSA to Sun Belt are treating it like this is some colossal step up for them.
Until like 3 years ago, the Sun Belt was a borderline FCS conference.
It's only a step up in the sense they are moving from a conference that won't exist to a conference that will. But this fan fare all these teams are making it out to be as "the next step towards building a championship program" is hilarious.

I’ve seen a quote several times that is accurate
“You’re just shuffling deck chairs on the titanic”
That is why Memphis and Boise are desperate to get on one of the last life boats out of town. The P4 break off is coming and your only hope is to try and get to the Big 12 and pray they get taken along.

From the USM perspective, I don't think it's a colossal step up for them in terms of building a championship program, but of building regional rivalries and sparking fan interest again. With UAB leaving, LaTech was their only regional opponent. Now they're surrounded by conference mates.

LA Tech thinks they’re the equivalent of an AAC school, when really they’re just a Sun Belt school. Now the Sun Belt is leaving them behind and it’s too late for them to swallow their pride and accept who they really are. It’s the mentality of Tech people that’s screwing them over right now.

Bruh, these are the same damn talking points regurgitation over & over…over again by ULM & Cajun fans.
We know you had your feeling hurt & were oppressed by Tech.
I’m not convinced that SBC would’ve invited Tech anyway due to close proximity of ULM.
