USS Callister is one of the best in terms of entertainment and weirdness and fantasy. So that's a favorite.

San Junipero is the most like a mini-movie and has the most depth...but it doesn't have the replay value like USS Callister.

But one of the earliest episodes (Nosedive) I still love because it is a stab at our present culture as Twilight Zone used to do...oh and this:

I really enjoyed White Bear. The twist was amazing and the ending was really thought provoking about the commodification of the justice system in that way.

I watched the first three episodes and honestly I can’t get into it. The stories just aren’t very good.

-first off, each episode is standalone and not related to any others so you don't have to go in order from the beginning. Skipping around is not an issue.
-the first ep of the first season is pretty crappy (IMO) and it has a TOTALLY different vibe/feel than the rest of the show, so don't even really let that one affedt your thoughts
-Wtih that said, the next 2 (15 million merits and history of you) ARE very much "black mirror-y" so if you don't like either of those then the show probably just isn't your thing.
-As a final thought, I would skip ahead to White Christmas and watch that. if you don't like that then you simply don't like the show and I'd suggest quitting entirely. But that one was just so unbelievable. It was the first one I ever watched after someone recommended and I was absolutely floored, blown away. It is by far the best ep IMO and actually plays like a mini-movie due to length.

Well yeah that’s why I said “stories”. The first three just aren’t good imo. Maybe there are some good ones in there. I’ll check out White Christmas.

You didn't think The Entire History of You was any good? That's the best one of the series IMO.

White Christmas is great as well, but I suspect if you didn't like tEHoY you may not like it either.

Admittedly, the very first episode (National Anthem) is one of the worst of the series though. I wanted to give up after that one, but kept going and really liked 15 Million Merits. Then I watched tEHoY and was blown away.

The beauty of BM is that some episodes are incredible and some are just meh. But the ones I think are awesome/meh will be the complete opposite of what someone else may think. Every time we have a thread like this, after a few pages pretty much all of the episodes have been named because they all speak to people differently. For example, some people loved Bandersnatch (which was their attempt at making a "choose your own adventure" show), and I hated it.

If you're still willing to give it a shot, I'd definitely recommend White Christmas. If you are pleased enough with that one to continue, maybe try these:
Shut Up and Dance
White Bear
San Junipero (one of the few "happy" ones)

What's scary about BM is that some of the stories feel totally plausible with where the world (and technology) is headed. Nosedive is a good example of that.

I had no idea what you were talking about so I just checked. Apparently Netflix started me on Season 5 for some reason. I had never seen the show before. So, let me make this correction: the first three episodes of Season 5 aren’t very good.

Smithereens

I like Smithereens, but those other two are not among the best episodes.

Be Right Back, Nosedive, Hated In The Nation, Hang The DJ as well.

I'd say more episodes are hits than misses overall.

I was wondering, and almost asked if you started with S1.

quote:

History of You, White Christmas, White Bear, Shut Up and Dance, San Junipero.

That's a very solid five to start off with for sure. While White Bear and SUaD are fairly similar in nature, they are both very good stories. History, Christmas, and SJ offer a wide range of plots and stories.

Another good way to explain it is that it's basically kinda like Twilight Zone but based around technology and how it can/will affect life in the future. Just know that most of them aren't particularly "positive" or have happy endings...most are pretty bleak.

But those five offer a good enough range that if you aren't a fan after watching those then the show just isn't for you.

ETA: And if you watch one or two and don't like them, the good thing is that it's an anthology series, so every episode is its own thing. There are a couple of episodes that I just didn't like at all, even hated. And then some that I consider some of the best episodes of television in the last decade.
