Trojan Wire: LSU has deeper pockets than USC, and Franklin looks to be their #1 choice

A big and significant development in the coaching carousel occurred Monday night. Penn State head coach James Franklin switched agents, for one thing. What’s even more impactful and notable is that he switched to college football superagent Jimmy Sexton, who represents the heavyweight coaches in the sport, especially in the SEC.

Football Scoop broke the story about Franklin switching to Sexton.

quote:

You can put two and two together and see that a Sexton client is likely to go to the SEC.

Add this point to the mix, noting that Scott Woodward (whom we have written about here at Trojans Wire) is LSU’s athletic director:

Jimmy Sexton doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a done deal that James Franklin is gone and that he will certainly leave Penn State. However, it does mean that Franklin knows he is in a position to gain a lot of money one way or the other in the coming months.

quote:

Sexton will force Penn State to fork over a massive amount of money if it wants to keep Franklin. LSU is deep-pocketed and has the institutional muscle and desire to pay top dollar for a candidate, more than USC. Trojan fans might not want to hear that, but it’s the truth. (“It just means more,” to quote a familiar saying.)

quote:

The fact that Scott Woodward and Sexton get along well — Sexton is Jimbo Fisher’s agent, and Woodward hired Fisher when he was AD at Texas A&M — offers a crucial piece of evidence which points to James Franklin being LSU’s No. 1 target at this point.

A USC fan site does not know anything about Woodward’s top choices

I hope it's not Franklin
But yeah I could see where LSU wouldn't want to deal with Trace Armstrong again
He definitely wants out though if he is getting Sexton
We shall see how high Penn St is willing to go or if they are ready to let him walk

So he is angling for a huge raise at PSU on the rumors he is floating about going to another school...Sexton101

If Woodward gives Franklin some massive deal like he gave Jimbo then he should be fired.

Most likely this is just to get Franklin a raise though

Interesting timing. I think that this is work Being done by sexton to get Franklin’s price up for USC.

Jimmy and Woodward are close… Jimmy and Jimbo are close… Jimbo and Woodward are close…. Maybe we shouldn’t close to book on Jimbo yet?

Franklin is a good coach

He may or may not be the best option for this job, but to act like James Franklin would be a bad hire is ridiculous.

Franklin not worth a bidding war. Would actually prefer kiffin or Napier at this point.

BS

USC has huge pockets from their alumni. From Entertainment, business, law, finance, etc it’s runs deep. Much more than LSU. Their boosters paid for the remodel of the coliseum, the basketball arena and much more.

Get back to me when Penn State finishes the season with 5 losses. James will be happy if Penn State keeps his arse.

If that's who all this crap was about, I'd rather just let Ed run it into a straight up dumpster fire.

You don't pay a coach 17M to go away to hire James Franklin.

Never change LSU. Dumbasses.
