The "why" is because he is a blowhard a-hole.

The crew unions had walked off the job before this happened over safety issues as well as slow delivery of paychecks.

Dude Alex had already brought in non-union replacements. Alex, your friends may have decided you're expendable

As much as I don’t care for Baldwin, this is in no way his fault unless he messed with the gun prior to that scene. On any set, the actor should never have any part in loading/testing/modifying the gun aside from its use in that particular scene.

When doing scene rehearsals, they use a dummy gun/rubber gun and walk through everything to make sure people, cameras and so on are where they need to be. Once they are ready to roll film, the prop master will come on set announce there are hot guns on set and give the prop gun to the actor. They will immediately shoot the scene, the prop master will remove the gun and check it once again. At no point is anyone other that the prop master suppose to do anything to that gun.

Unless it comes back that Baldwin altered something after receiving the gun, this will more than likely for all the gun guy or someone working in that department.

You'd have to bring a blank because you wouldn't last 5 seconds without it. Good thing they serve milkshakes because that's all you'd be able to eat.

This is just stupid. His race would have nothing to do with it. His alliance with the Hollywood, liberal, communist, democrats on the other hand will likely get him off Scott free.

you have lost your god damn mind

In no way is it anyone’s fault but his. If I’m driving a car and someone tells me it’s safe to go it is my job to check myself.

I’ll be damned if I point a gun at someone and pull a trigger no matter the circumstances without checking, double checking and then checking again.

He killed the person he is responsible.

‘Rust’ crew describes on-set gun safety issues and misfires days before fatal shooting

quote:

Hours before actor Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer on the New Mexico set of “Rust” with a prop gun, a half-dozen camera crew workers walked off the set to protest working conditions.

The camera operators and their assistants were frustrated by the conditions surrounding the low-budget film, including complaints about long hours, long commutes and collecting their paychecks, according to three people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment.

Safety protocols standard in the industry, including gun inspections, were not strictly followed on the “Rust” set near Santa Fe, the sources said. They said at least one of the camera operators complained last weekend to a production manager about gun safety on the set.

quote:

A colleague was so alarmed by the prop gun misfires he sent a text message to the unit production manager. “We’ve now had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe,” according to a copy of the message reviewed by The Times.

quote:

Three crew members who were present at the Bonanza Creek Ranch set that day said they were particularly concerned about two accidental prop gun discharges on Saturday.

Baldwin’s stunt double accidentally fired two rounds Saturday after being told that the gun was “cold” — lingo for a weapon that doesn’t have any ammunition, including blanks, two crew members who witnessed the episode told the Los Angeles Times.

“There should have been an investigation into what happened,” said the crew member. “There were no safety meetings. There was no assurance that it wouldn’t happen again. All they wanted to do was rush, rush, rush.”

First thing you learn about guns is not to point them at anything you don’t intend to destroy. Even if you fully believe it is unloaded.

I understand you can’t always follow that rule in a staged shooting scene, but even those have safety protocols… like not firing at anyone within 20’ away… with blank rounds. Because they can, and have, killed.

If he pointed the gun and fired at those people… unless they were in a scene with him… it’s on him.

I'm surprised that guns on a movie set are actual functional guns, capable of firing a real bullet.

I just always assumed they were props that would just fire a little something that would make a little noise, flash and smoke. More like a cap gun. But not an actual blank (which as mentioned, can be dangerous at close range).

And why in Hell would there even be any live ammunition for those guns anywhere near the set? This is stupid.

Heck, they can CGI all that stuff in these days. Why deal with an actual safety issue? Especially all these gun hating Hollywood types (who don't mind making money from films with guns in them).

Perhaps you should be in the scene when they have to refilm it.

CGI is one hell of a lot more expensive than blanks. Unless there was a legitimate reason for him to be pointing a gun at these people and pulling the trigger, he should be up on manslaughter charges. Doesn’t sound like something they are going to be able to sweep under the rug with the previous complaints, but those complaints may be perfect cover since it was about accidental discharges. Still doesn’t explain why he would be pointing at people who aren’t actors.

My question as well. Don't know a whole lot about this (there might be more I just haven't read about) but there's no way this incident wasn't on camera. Very interested to see the footage leak

Anyone who thinks this will take wind out of the sails of anti-gun wackos is living a fantasy. If anything this will just give them more fuel.
