There is a lack of resources in terms of what (Franklin) needs to take that program to the next level.

It was as highlighted as highlighted could be this past summer when they tried to get a $50 million loan for a $45 million facilities upgrade, and none other than Anthony Lubrano (one of the main boosters / donors to the school) and Jay Paterno found it to be peculiar, but it makes a whole lot of sense.

There seems to be some type of a power struggle taking place up there. A lot of it has to do with the legacy of Joe (Paterno).

I'm certain that James Franklin, as much as it seems he's been (accepted and beloved) at the school, there are a lot of people who fall on the other side of that. If you're close to it, you know some of the intimate details of what he's dealing with.

I would not be surprised if James Franklin, with all he's overcome and done as head coach at Penn State, decided to go to a LSU or a USC based on the support that he would receive.

According to some of the connected guys on the 247 message board, Franklin has already won the struggle and there are going to be some major announcements this winter. He allegedly met with LSU back around week 2, and used those communications to get more of his demands met from PSU.

Lavar is right though, and overall struggle is FAR from over. Lubrano and Jay have absolutely made things difficult for a coach like Franklin. He’s had to fight tooth and nail for facility upgrades and staff raises/bonuses etc. Jay viewed himself as his fathers successor and still wants control of the program, so he’ll set himself up to oppose Franklin at every move.

They’ll appeal as the altruistic guys who think money needs to be redirected away from sports and will absolutely have supporters amongst the old Paterno faithful. This is entirely hypocritical considering Joe Paterno was heavily involved in athletic funding and the cfb arms race during the 80s opening one of the first ever indoor practice facilities and one of the first football only ops buildings.

If that part is indeed true, it means a few things:

1. Napier most certainly is not the #1 choice.
2. Woodward is way further along in this process than people realize.

If he was really already making contact with Franklin after the UCLA game, then I can't imagine where he is right now with the search. Hell, he may already have an unofficial agreement in place with someone.

Which is why it will be denied if it happened.

Unlike Ed O admitting his DC was 5th choice.

Even Alleva said he never went after Jimbo. Which we all know is complete bull shite.

There is zero chance Napier is the first choice. And that’s fine. Woody shoots high and everyone knows this. It’s completely understandable that Napier is not the first choice.

Started immediately after the UCLA game.

He's on a trial. I doubt we are dealing with many candidates now.

Franklin isn’t meeting with LSU on week 2. Maybe some smoke signals between intermediaries, but anything beyond that is fabrication.

That doesn't follow. Napier is a hot name in the coaching world. I'm not going to pretend to know what the list is, but Fickell is Tom Herman in 2016 and Napier is Scott Frost in 2018. Neither of those two really panned out, but both had people very high on them despite being "just G5 coaches". I would guess Franklin would get the nod in a vacuum, but it wouldn't be weird if the #1 choice is a guy who turned down Auburn because he thought he could do better. To everyone outside of this website he is not "just" that Lafayette coach.

As for 2, I thought it was well known that Ed O was de facto fired after UCLA? Why else do you think the school let Culotta do so much mudslinging that week?

Penn state was playing ball state in between Wisconsin and auburn. I highly doubt the above part is true.

His people may have discussed it with LSU but Franklin didn’t.
