I haven’t seen this mentioned in all of the Napier praise threads. I’m not saying he’s a dud and he may be the next great coach but there is too much unknown and risk for failure.

There are no guarantees in coaching hires but Woody will go with the least amount of risk and a first time head coach at ULL ain’t it.

People get fired. Making a habit of being fired is the red flag.

I’d say that’s quite the improvement from a fired coach from Ole Miss

It's been posted dozens of times in all the Napier hate threads.

There are only two extreme sides of any argument. You either 100% love or 100% hate every candidate. There is no room for acknowledging that every possibility has both good and bad points.

Also, STATISTICS!! Even though virtually no one making "statistical" arguments understands how that might apply here.

I think it’s too early in Napier’s HC career to take a chance on him. 2 or 3 more great seasons I would be more comfortable with it.

Unfortunately we can’t afford a miss at this juncture. Wouldn’t be surprised if a lower level power 5 school picked him up. One with enough patience to let him build a program and start over at a similar level if he fails.

I’m very blasé toward Napier & Fickell. I haven’t followed either of their careers but trust Scott Woodward to pull in the best candidate.

Go do some research on that 2010 Clemson season. He was the scapegoat. Clemson had a shitty Sophomore starting at QB. Tahj Boyd was a Freshman that played a little and only completed around 50% of his passes. The rest of the QBs on the roster were Freshman.

The Willy Korn saga screwed Clemson. Willy was the top rated QB coming out of high school. He got hurt. He sucked after that, didn't recover very well and he transferred out after 2009. Willy is the OC at Coastal Carolina now.

Clemson also lost C.J. Spiller, Jacoby Ford and Michael Palmer. That was a shite ton of production to replace. Deandre Hopkins was a Freshman in 2010 as well.

Boyd, Hopkins and Watkins, who was a Freshman, blew up in 2011. Andre Ellington became a better player in 2011.

Would Billy have done better with the 2011 group than the 2010 group? Probably so!

I honestly don't care who we hire, but Napier is a damn good coach. If you guys want Saban 2.0, he is as good as there is going to be out there. He can spend the 2 million on a badass DC.

Don’t be so sure. He’s turned down State, Auburn, and South Carolina for this job

Worst fear in 5-6 years Saban finally retires. He replaces Saban and he whips our arse for 10 years..

I don’t understand why people keep saying “he’s one of us.”
Born in TN, high school in GA, played college ball in SC. He has been in Louisiana since 2018.
What am I missing that makes him “one of us”

Even that Sophomore QB knew he wasn’t any good. He quit football and decided to focus on baseball after that season.

Tahj Boyd took over the following year, and developed into a very good college QB, followed by Watson and Lawrence.

Things might have turned out vastly different for Napier if Dabo wasn’t under fire and facing criticism in his second year. He was still viewed as a goofy position coach, and had to sacrifice someone, or his job would be in danger.

It’s the IER that makes some assume he grew up somewhere south of elllick.

He has already seen interest from Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn. He will get a big job.

People saw him beat App St on TV Tuesday so they want him (and some have wanted him before because he has been successful at ULL), but I don't think he is the guy LSU should hire.

I think it would be a bad look to take a HC from another instate school. There are better options out there.

I know, right? I still can't believe how stupid the Patriots were for hiring Belichick. I mean, he was fired by the Browns!!!!! Duurrrrrrrrrrrr.
