so are white people in general and soccer moms concerned about their child’s education. good point.

We thought it was pretty much over back around April and May of this year. People were getting vaccinated and the alpha variant had about run its course, then summer hit and the Delta variant took hold and anti-vaccination talking points started to spread.

pretty big difference now though in vax rates and already infected rates than back in April and May

That tends to happen when you threaten people with forced vaccination mandates.

Covid is out there and will never go away, even with the vaccine it will still be transmitted and people will still die from it just like the flu. It is obvious governments are trying to continue the scare tactics on stupid and gullible people to expand their wealth and power. The restrictions and mandates are useless and ineffective and I think most people see that now.

Yeah, just Googled and it has pretty much fizzled out.

Correct, they NEED mail in voting.

I love reading the local Houston articles where they quote some doctor saying the current rates are unacceptable and we can’t ever let our guards down. It’s a shame people in a position of trust are so unabashedly after attention.

I knew it was over here when the news stopped reporting hospital and vent numbers a month ago

The article I read said it never really got any footing because of the Delta variant, so it really wasn't much in the news to begin with. It did quote some doctor that said as Delta wanes, it could make a comeback but he stopped short of making a prediction on it would or wouldn't.

I guess what I'm asking is, it seems really promising to me that we don't see any really troublesome variants coming down the pike right now (if what you all were able to dig up is accurate -- of course it required digging), so why aren't news outlets widely touting such hopeful information? Why?

dont think Delta is finished up North, but we all know it will be within a month or so.

So in short, i agree there's a good chance its over realistically.

Whether the media allows it to be over any time soon is anyone's guess.

For once - Louisiana was first to get something, not last

Like in India, Delta burned really hot here (3? people I went to high school with died over the summer), but it burned out pretty quickly as well.

Hopefully, it burns out up north pretty soon. That and increased vaccination rates in most places and that's likely enough? (Famous last words...)

You know the answer my man. The Baton Rouge Area has 65 covid patients. SIXTY-FIVE. And half probably just tested positive while in the hospital for another reason.

But just assume thats not true and all 65 are there for covid. In the whole metro-area the number is 65. That's fantastic news. You'd never know it based on the news though.

I’m genuinely worried that this might be true. I can envision a world where masks mandates, vaccine mandates, and lockdowns with government supported non-work are all just a recurring regular part of life … death, taxes, and Covid.

They will forever be telling us “you can’t do that right now because of Covid.” “We have to change the way we do this because of Covid.” “We need pass this bill because of Covid.” And on and on and on.

I actually see it the other way around. I think it's a 0% chance there is 24/7 coverage about it (regardless of a surge) because they want to be able to tell us how they saved us. When the GOP was in charge, everyone was dying and being rejected from hospitals. But, because of their measures, we are now safe and can live our lives as we see fit...within their rules.

My guess is they're gun shy after what happened earlier this year before Delta spread. We all kind of let our guard down, and then we saw the worst numbers of the whole pandemic over the summer.
