Took my wife(no pics) to have her SUV fixed at the toyota dealership. As i waited noticed a car parked next to me with a sticker in the window. It reads 2015 Ford focus had all the accessories etc.. 149,000 miles. Right there i'm thinking that's a lot miles so in my head i set a price of 7 or 8 thousand. Finally get to the bottom and it reads: 14,998.00 before taxes and title Last Year, purchased a 2016 chevy sonic, for kids, similar car for 8k after taxes and title with 40k miles. I know dear facebook but almost doubled the price. Told my wife i'll be hanging on to my clunker for a few more years. I had heard it was bad but dam. Anybody got any similar stories ? and how long do you think this will go on?

Well, with all the tariffs and lack of products being allowed in the country at all the docks, it’s gonna stay this way for a long while

Even the older, worn out stuff is kind of high.

It’s insane, my wife and I were probably going to buy something cheap for me to daily drive towards the end of the year but everything that was on the radar has pretty much doubled in price in 6 months.

Yup, I was going to be purchasing 3rd or 4th quarter of this year and I’ve put it off until next year.

I’ve watched the price of the used cars I’ve been looking at go up about 30-40% since March.

Don't know all the details, but I was driving a "courtesy" truck while my Toyota was in the shop recently. They called me in a panic--they needed the truck back ASAP. They even offered to come get it. It was a 21 Tacoma with about 10K miles. I drove it back to them, and they put me in a brand new Tacoma--under 2 miles odometer--for the next several days. From what I heard, they someone bought the first truck as a "Certified Used" off their website sight unseen. So, yeah, the used market is pretty crazy right now.

I get that blaming everything on Biden is both funny and mostly true, but the used/new car problems have little to nothing to do with either administration. Supply is constrained, plain and simple. Started with massive demand during the pandemic as people moved out of cities and needed vehicles, wiping out most inventories. Since then, the chip shortage has meant new vehicles can’t sniff pre-pandemic levels, so everything that rides on 4 wheels has skyrocketed.

It’s multifaceted, but I’m cool with blaming Biden.

I bought my son a Hyundai Elantra this past weekend, 40K miles on it for 19K.

It was a pain in the arse and we were at the dealership for 5 hours, the inventory was low and the "used" parking lot was nearly empty.

They were not going to let us leave without a car though.

Biden voters wanted to help out the poor and middle class by making everything much more expensive

There's your first mistake...dealers are jacking up prices on used vehicles these days like they are made out of crack.

I was at a dealership the other day looking at a 2017 Z71 with 159K. They wanted $48 grand for the vehicle. Does anybody remember when used cars were a less expensive alternative to new cars?

This continues to be a direct result of the Obama-Biden Cash-for-Clunkers scheme.
