The fact this happened in Louisiana tells me it wasn't a perfect storm. It's just the culmination of a police departments' ineptitude. You think this would happen to the Texas Rangers? You think this would even happen to Mississippi or Alabama state police? What a fricking embarrassment, losing a trooper like this? Radio silence? A fellow officer probably bleeding to death with no fellow officers to check on him? To possible save him? To render any aid. Dear lord. 15 hours. I think this might be the most embarrassing thing I've seen happen to a police department... Let alone Louisiana's supposed greatest police department??!?

Actually yes, I think under the circumstances this kind of thing could happen to pretty much any agency that covers a large amount of territory with relatively few personnel at any given time. It doesn't surprise me that the night shift would just assume a veteran guy had made it home and that everything was business as usual for anyone not directly involved in the pursuit/manhunt situation.

I guess they have video from the bank?

I call BS. When primary channels are suspended, normal traffic goes through other channels. They don't just shut down everything.

I have to agree with you on this, but after seeing the cluster fricks post hurricanes and flood it seems plausible. But those were extenuating circumstances. Shutting comms down for a shooter in the BR area is plain dumb.

Davis said the chaos of the manhunt likely led to Gaubert going undiscovered for the next 15 hours. He said troopers were maintaining radio silence during the search, meaning non-emergency radio calls were suspended.

Why would LSP maintain radio silence? It's my understanding they use a trunked system that is not accessible by scanner. And in many cases cops will use cell phones also for security.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

No police department, under any circumstance, should allow an officer (let alone a Trooper) sit in a police car - dead - for FIFTEEN frickING HOURS.

I don't know the nature of his wounds but imagine if he bled to death and could have survived with medical attention..?

He was shot five times... my guess is if he was able... he would have gotten on the radio to call for help.

For his sake I hope he passed quickly.

I *kinda* understand the radio silence but in 20 freaking 21 we should have enough GPS on the cars to track them at all times... and someone at a desk in a monitoring center somewhere should have noted that the car wasn't freaking moving for hours... and tried to radio the car, and when they didn't get an answer... go check on them.

Normally, Gaubert would have signed off around 6 a.m. when his overnight shift ended, telling his colleagues "10-7" over the radio. But those calls are suspended during major emergencies

Most competent emergency agencies have a computer system that allow you to do that with the tap of a button, just like marking yourself entities or on scene.

I think that is obvious. I can track my kids at all times of the day, or every company car my business has.. But the LSP somehow allows a cruiser riddled with bullet holes sit somewhere for almost an entire day? With a dying trooper in it who was on the clock?

This is so embarrassingly sad. I don't know. I just can't believe something like this happens in a country that isn't some kind of banana republic..

That’s terrible. Talk about wrong time, wrong place. It’s startling to think that if that car hadn’t of wrecked, than he possibly wouldn’t have been too there and in all likelihood, wouldn’t have been cold blooded murdered.

This Mire piece of shite must have been on a meth fueled psychotic rampage. Who here knows this guy? Has he always been this violent? Obviously he’s a class A piece of shite but is this a example of a pattern or an outlier, like a psychotic break?

Usually there are hourly check in’s. Im surprised after missing many and then not signing off it would be a huge concern.

This. Every police agency has different channels.

What should have happened is this:

All units involved in the search for shite bag on (example) channel LSP 1.

All other units on (example) channel LSP 2.

Units on LSP 2 could "scan" and hear any relevant traffic on LSP 1, but still be able to communicate freely on LSP 2.

I know all local LEOs were busy looking for this human piece of garbage- who I sincerely hope gets arse cancer and dies the most agonizing painful cancer death imaginable while he’s in prison- but that poor dead trooper sat in the same parking lot for 15 hours and no one- pedestrian or law enforcement- ever saw him or thought his being there odd?

I mean did they just suspend all other patrol duties to look for Mire? NO ONE was on uniform patrol and saw the unit parked in the same spot for 12 hours?

USUALLY for safety. In a high traffic area, they'd have to constantly be scanning the parking lot, deal with people walking up, etc. The ideal place is somewhere secluded, BUT with limited access points. (Think backed in to an alleyway with no rear access). Then only one "avenue" has to be monitored for any threats.

But the answer (unfortunately) is complacency. I guarantee you this trooper had done the same thing a million times and nothing bad occurred.

The POS made a comment that Officer Gaubert was “guarding the house and that he didn’t mean to kill Officer Gaubert” dude was probably cracked out. He should fry sooner rather than later.

So when did they find the people shot on Dutton Road? Because the only way to Dutton Road is pretty much through the Capitol One parking lot. There is no main drive.

Judging by one article the couple on Dutton Road were known to have been shot long before the body was found. They were taken to the hospital so a police presence had to be in the area.

Google street view for anyone unfamiliar with the are
16171 State Bank Dr

This is the only route to Dutton Road except through a concrete yard.
