If you’re _______, drinking alcohol is going to make you really ________.

Feel free to insert any of the following:
Happy
Sad
Angry
Violent
Horny
Stupid

The list is endless. Alcohol has been directly or indirectly responsible for everything bad that has happened in my life. Quit it if you can. Life it WAY better without it.

I drink because I prefer the company of drunks, and they don’t like sober people hanging around, making faces.

Alcohol is merely a mechanism that shifts your troubles further down until they all stack up and you are forced to deal with them all at once without proper hydration and a bad headache.

Too bad it isn't a tax write off.

I go straight from relaxed to sad with like zero in between. It can get ugly fast. At least I rarely get sick drunk. I’ve never been angry or violent. I’m plenty stupid sober, so it’s difficult to tell if alcohol really changes that. I can’t recall ever being particularly horny drunk, probably because I constantly had to pee.

Did you hear about the drunk deacon that went to church and had to sit in his own pew?

I haven't drank in almost 5 months. It's probably the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Temporarily yes. But then you wake up the next morning, and your troubles are still there.

I’ve never been one to really drink in quantity often enough that quitting drinking for an extended period of time has an ostensible and noticeable positive impact on my life.

Better question is why you drink. Humans do things for reasons. We cope with alcohol just like we do with media, food, drugs, porn/sex, consumerism, human connection and even exercise. Some are healthier than others, but all can be unhealthy. We cope to relieve boredom, stress, social anxiety, depression, anger, and to celebrate. The cure is to cope by finding contentment within yourself.

These do a good job at blunting our problems, and a small amount of stress is good, manageable, and teaches us to grow. It becomes a problem when we normalize coping and don’t see it becoming a crutch, not being able to tolerate a certain experience without that coping mechanism.

To be fair, the cycling dude did say...I know everyone doesn’t drink, I’m talking to everyone else.

No. I'm anxious af the next day. I drink because I like to drink and can't quit. It's a small defeat every night. What's worse than not drinking are the dreams. I quit drinking earlier this year for about 4 months and I can't remember what was real and what was a dream.

No, but as soon as I retire I’m going to wake and bake. I hear weed washes all your troubles away.

I drink to celebrate. I don’t want a drink when I’m down.

You got to expound. What do you mean, you had nightmares, your awake life was a dream state? Your memory is wonky?

But I feel you trying and failing at something everyday is a beat down, and can be depressing. And to be the only one that is standing in your way. Believe it or not your efforts are productive, and in the direction you want.

Yeah. You can quit. You may need some help with it, but you can quit.

No offense intended, and not to tell you your business but since it's affecting you this much, you'd probably be much healthier and in a better frame of mind if you did quit.

Good luck buddy, and God bless you, whatever you decide to do.
