I lived in Loveland for 2 years, now I’m in Houston… I think about selling everything and moving back to down town Loveland at least 3 times every hour. Idk what it is about that town. Also I’ll say this as well Fort Collins vibe never did it for me, I liked going out in Loveland much more.

I've always liked that area down to Raton. All of northern NM really

That’s a beautiful stretch of interstate.

OP, another interesting spot in CO would be Lyons. It’s jammed with tourist during the summer but it has good proximity to fun stuff.

Also check out Victor or Driggs, ID. Real estate has boomed out there in the past year but still attainable.

ETA: if I’m picking a CO ski town, it’s Steamboat. If money is no object, Jackson, WY.

Eta2: which one of y’all has the white Cherokee with LA plates that parks on the north side of Wash Park?

Northern New Mexico is so underrated. Love that area and Madrid is a cool little town.

Las Cruces is probably my favorite city in southern New Mexico.

Incredible place but house prices have been insane over the last few years. There still are some deals but you’re gonna have to get way more rural. Regular everyday houses for 250-300k here are double sometimes triple that in Durango.

The locals who have been there for 20 plus years are salt of the earth, good western people. The imports from places like Cali and Jersey are a different story but all in all it’s an fantastic place. If I get priced outta Durango and southwest Colorado, then northern New Mexico is plan B.

I lived in Fort Collins for 10 years and Windsor for 2 years. You need lots of money to live there. Otherwise I’d live there today.

Cost of living has been Californicated.

You are used to moisture in the air. You will not find it anywhere near there. Friends from Virginia moved to Denver and their 3 and 4 year olds kept licking their lips. They had horrible crusty patches where each had licked until the skin was raw. They gradually outgrew it, but the dryness was a shock.

If you garden, you won't have to weed the whole garden, just where you watered the plants.

Retire there? You won't be tempted to try to keep up with the buff Colorado college students when they bicycle up to the National Park.

How's your lung function? There is less air up there and at a certain decrepitude it makes a difference. (Get used to using a pressure cooker, it takes forfrikinever for water to boil.)

Yep. Last time we were out there in 2018 we hiked up in the Snowies in SE Wyoming just shy of 12,000 ft.and I was gasping for air. And I'm in pretty good shape. It'll get even the best of us.

I have a couple buddies that moved to Fort Collins after high school. a big factor was for recreational marijuana. 6 years later: three of them are hooked on drugs, one moved back to LA and is doing very well, and the other 2 are doing well in CO and making a living

Like...weed drugs? Or like, DRUG drugs?

I’ve lived in Loveland for 2 years after moving from La. This place is amazing. The climate is absolutely wonderful and it’s very laid back. Never say never but I’m never moving back to La.

I also just want to say that I’m jealous for those that can easily consider these things. I’d love nothing more than to pack up and move to a place in the mountains. My wife and I are both teachers, so combined income is enough to live comfortably on here in South Texas. This state also has great retirement.

I don’t want to wait until I retire to get out, so that’s 1 issue.

The second is, our dollar won’t go very far up in any of those places. I could make it work in Pueblo, but that’s not exactly the garden spot of Colorado. Then again, it won’t be much different demographically from where I live now

At best, I’d be looking at a place in New Mexico.

That begs the question, how do teachers make it work up there? Seems like they have to rent or get some roommates.

Yeah I find that hard to believe. It’s a scenic little town, but what does it have going for it other than having the closest pot shop to the TX border?
