I googled Speed Queen and it looks like the washer may take over 5300 ways to operate. Obviously that depends on your particular model. That may be the starting power or the peak power required somewhere in the cycle. I don’t know because I’m not an electrician. Anyway, my best guess is that your generator doesn’t have enough power to meet the peak demand.

You need to know the power draw of your appliances in watts. This is found on the manufacturer nameplate, expressed as amps or watts. If the plate gives the watts, then it’s easy. If amps are given, convert amps to watts by multiplying the amps times the voltage.

Let’s use a fancy LG Wi-Fi enabled electric dryer for my example. On the nameplate it says it draws 30 amps at 240 volts.
You multiply 30 by 240 volts to get 7200 watts.

That is your running wattage.

A dryer motor (any motor) also needs a jolt of about three times its running wattage to start up, but this surge is needed for only a fraction of a second. To run the dryer in this example, you will need a generator that can handle 7200 watts for long periods and a surge of 21,600 watts for a split second.

Thanks tchop. This is the info I’m trying to figure out.

Like I said on the washer side, it was stopping on the fill cycle so it wasn’t a big power draw. Oh well.

8000 watt generator. Is it running on gasoline, NG, or propane? NG or propane will degrade the watt output

Also an electric motor will require more amps at start up, but only for a fraction of a second, but enough to kill the operation if too many amps.

Also, high temps can effect generator output. And again Ferand to total watt output

I was having issues pulling over 12 total amps on my panel with my tri-fuel 8000 watt generator on NG during the peak temp part of the day. But nights were better.

I ran our Speed Queen top loader on a 4850 generator while running a refrigerator and 2 fans.

Ha, I’ll take that. I ran out of gin yesterday and apparently the city thought banning alcohol sales was a good idea.

Hand wash and hang on a clothesline.

It worked at one time.

I can’t get the washer to run...So If you don’t have a solution to my problem
Serious? Do you have 2 tubs or buckets? Take one bucket, add laundry detergent and water and wash by hand what you need. Then, rinse them in the second bucket. Wring the towels out and hang them on some cord you've tied from one point to the next. Problem solved without anyone having to frick themselves, though it would be impressive if they could.

Coon I’m in Thibodaux as well. I’m just running lights and fans and my fridges on a 8500 watt propane generator. I lost power to 2 bedrooms no matter what I do. Just happened today. Can One area being nor on cause other rooms not to come on any more? I’ve lost 2 bedrooms lights and wall sockets today and don’t know why they stopped??

Try running the washer on delicate cycle. This should cause thf motor to run slower and maybe draw less current on startup.

Also if you have a good power filter or even a battery backup, try plugging the washer into that. Probably just dirty power. An inverter might work better.

Good luck with all the family in your house. Going to be some trying times.

I’d try plugging directly into the generator. You should move the washer outside for safety purposes of course. I know it seems like a stupid idea but it worked for me.

LOL. You need a fresh towel every day? In certain situations, maybe you can hang your towel up and use it for a week or two? If not, you’re a pussy.
