Oh I also laughed at maybe I have “dirty power”.

That right there told me you probably shouldn’t even operate a generator.

Why would 13 people go to a house with no power?

I really don't understand why so many are giving such a hard time on this.

Last year for Laura, it was much more comfortable for my family and my sister's family to stay and my mom and dad's. It total, including small kids, it's 11 people.

They have a large room with had 4 mattresses and 1 air mattress in. We kept the doors shut and had 2 window units and generator dedicated to this room to keep it comfortable.

They also have gas, while my sister and I have electric. We had a separate generator for the rest of the house and refrigerators/freezers. We rotated paying for gas and cooking.

Also, it's much easier for kids, , cousins to keep them selves entertained with no electricity.

Combining 3 families resources during these times made more sense to us and I'm sure the OP's situation is similar.

I was able to wash a few items last night. Both of my teens are working and 1 only has two shirts for work. I have a whirlpool (newer model, but no display). I set it to Quick Wash, and auto sense. While it fills, it agitates the clothes to adjust water levels. Maybe yours is trying to do the same?, Or, maybe your generator is putting out some harmonics in the power and the washer doesn't like it.

Maybe you could take all the dirty clothes/ towels and haul them to a washateria in Gonzales. Swing by Walmart and pick up a few more.

Set up a clothes line and have everyone reuse their towels a few times to extend between washings.

I know this is the OT, but it's pretty fricked up when someone has opened up their home to others and needs help and the first thought is they are wanting luxuries.

Good luck

Considering the power will be out for an extended period of time it’s not like OP asked a bizarre question.

I ran my Speed Queen top load once yesterday with no problems. Can't remember if I used the propane run generator with 6750 or gasoline generator with 5000 constant...I alternate them. Used a heavy gauge extension cord and washer was the only thing connected. The load was fairly light consisting of twin sheet set, mattress cover and very light blanket. We hung dried inside with fans blowing. So at least the washing part can be done.

generators don't bond the neutral to the ground internally sometimes, some appliances need this bond in order to operate

so if you dont feed your breaker panel with the generator this bond won't be made and you'd have to do it a different way, i used a plug that you can use to make a custom extension cord and put a small jumper from neutral to ground inside of it
