Always fill up and never drive around unless you have to. Always have cash in the house.

Co-worker was bitching because he didn't have gas in his truck. Asked him if he filled up before, he said no.

My sister and her kids, asked them if they filled up, nope...

You would think people from La would know this shite...

Have lots of gas cans (full with fresh gas), a reliable generator (if it’s acting up, bite the bullet and buy a new one), extension cords, a window unit, gas burner, black iron and propane.

That, and booze, ice and water. Deck of cards

Those are the same people who only have two days of food in their house.

Told my wife to fill up last Thursday. She never listens to me so I really don't know what I was expecting.

Gas. Cash. Water.

If you go driving, you better have a 4x4 and either a winch or a power saw and straps.

Preferably all of the above.

No one should have to risk themselves for your stupidity.

Having said that:

Gas, generator, batteries, water, propane, non-perishable food, and cash are a must.

If you're like me and have a freezer full of game & fish, I always make sure I have a bunch of cooking oil, fish fry, onions, and rice.

And you need to have twice as much booze than what you think you need, because people will always find their way to your house eventually, and it's good payment for helping to clean up your yard/house.

I have learned from experience but Katrina taught a lot. Although I live in central Mississippi and do not experience the hurricane damage those in south Louisiana do, we have ice storms. We have a small generator, plenty of gas cans 2 window units, extension cords, propane stove with fuel, small solar panel and 12v light bulbs. Over the years I have learned. We never lost power, but we were prepared. I can use the gas and we'll eat the food.
