Ever wonder if valets take your car joy riding? They do

I stayed in New Orleans at a decent hotel Monday and Tuesday. When I went to check out, the valet couldn’t find my keys. I checked the app that came with my car to find it’s location and it was in the correct garage. But, when I clicked on “trip history”, I saw that it was taken out between 4:30 AM and 7 AM to City Park and Armstrong Park, making 5 stops. I obviously lost my sh*t. Long story short, they had to wake up the valet employee and drive to his house to retrieve my keys. Took about three hours total. No damage to my car and they comped my stay. An “investigation” is still going on and they are emailing me updates. What does the OT think I should do, if anything?

I drive a mom suv so I doubt they’d choose my car

I mean, if the valet guy wants to take my 2005 4Runner out to buy some weed, I don't really care. Would be nice if he'd top off the gas though.

I thought my 1978 Honda Accord LX CVCC had a few extra miles on it. Damn the perils of owning a pussy wagon like that!

I avoid valets as much has humanly possible. My car is a manual too and less and less people can competently drive stick, so that makes it even worse. Got burned having a valet completely destroy my clutch a few years back. Never again.

See if his weed plug is any good?

It's crazy this continues to happen with cars that can track their history.

At least they drove slowly

What else would you do? I mean I guess you could try and press charges of some sort, but I'd let it rest. Seems like a hassle to take it any further

Trying to decide if I should believe you or not.

For Heaven's sake, keep us posted.

I think you should tell us the hotel. Social media ire will help you. I mean they need to pay for a major deep clean of your car, too

I don't valet for this reason. My Ford does this too, but I refuse to let strangers drive my vehicle. Hell, I don't even let my wife drive it.

I agree. That was my thought too. The only valid argument I’ve heard is that a crime might have been committed in it. Such a long shot, that it’s not worth it.

New Orleans being New Orleans. They guy took your keys home after joy riding your car. Holy shite. Bet he doesn’t even get fired.
I’d want to murder someone if they that with either of our vehicles.

While working as a valet at lauberge for a few years you'd end up getting to know some of the regular high rollers pretty well. There were a few who let me take their cars (with them in the passenger seat) for a test drive. I fired a couple of guys for joy riding

Not mine. I have a valet mode through my Ecutek module. throttle is limited to 20%, 3000rpm rev limiter and car can only drive 2 miles. I can adjust all of those parameters as needed.
