It's sickening to see. These are the systems that as a weather geek you think you want to see. Then when you do, you just wish it didn't exist. She's a beast now.

It will more than likely land as a Cat 4 the way it’s shaping out.

This has really been what the wait all day was for.

D-Max combined with hot water and a consolidated eye.

That ain't no 105mph storm anymore.

Storm is looking more impressive with each radar frame. The latest one is the best the storm has looked. In fact it is looking perfect for more strengthening.

If you are in the path of this storm you need to get out now and leave. Do NOT be caught at 6-7am when everyone wakes up and this is a high 3 or 4 storm. There will be a panic in the morning if this continues to blow up.

We have friends in luling who left. Keep trying — they have some time right??

Of course they have time but they're being stubborn. I just called my sister again and she got pissed, my mom says she's riden out enough storms and can ride this one out as well.

They're stressing me the hell out.

The eye goes over Denham Springs and Walker.

The NHC line bisects the l, i, and n in Clinton. If the forecast track holds and Ida’s eye wall maintains its integrity it’ll be the second eye wall I’ve experienced. The first was in 1965.

Ironically Betsy seems remarkably similar to Ida respecting Ida’s predicted landfall near Grand Isle, Ida’s Category (if Ida verifies at a Cat 4), her projected path paralleling the Mississippi River and the possibility of Ida producing Category 1 or 2 winds in Baton Rouge.

Betsy was moving significantly faster at 20 or 22 mph hitting hard but fast. We’re apparently not so lucky with Ida.

Good luck and stay safe. I pray God restrains this immoderate weather and protects everyone in Ida’s path.

1115pm Hurricane #Ida continues to move northwest with the eye clearly visible on our radar. Ida is now about 140 miles SSW of the mouth of the MS River. Bands are already moving onshore with Pascagoula gusting to 34 mph and a few rigs have gusted above 60 mph. #LAwx #MSwx LINK

It's been forecasted as a 4 at landfall for at least 2 days now, maybe longer. This isn't a situation where it's been forecasted low and you wake up to totally different

Agreed. Hopefully she is already in the Loop Current, and that is causing the RI. If not.. look out.

Staying. I’m more worried about extended power outages than anything else.

I’m in AP and I’m staying. I’d rather be uncomfortable at home than uncomfortable and cramped in a hotel room.
