Anyone here commute daily from BR to Plaquemine?

Considering taking a job there. Wondering just how hellish the commute is in the evenings. My daily commute now is 20-25 minutes (live in mid-city), so driving to Plaquemine would more than double that.
I know there are people that do it and deal with it, but I have friends telling me not to take the job because of the traffic. Just wondering how dramatic that is, or if it's really that bad.

What time would you be going home?

Expect a 1.5/2 hour commute in the evenings.

Evening, probably 4-5 most days.

To be honest, the "dow traffic" (which isnt just down anymore) sucks. More times than not it seems like the traffic is stopped from the intercoastal to Brusly HS.
Taking the ferry is an option, but again.. Depending on what time you are leaving, you might have to wait 2 or 3 cycles before you can get on..

I would move if you have to take the job. That’s going to really suck

There used to be 2 ferries but hasn’t been in a long time. There’s no getting around the horrific traffic.

Hwy 77 at 85 mph. I10 at 100mph
Around it.
Around it.

I've been checking out maps and waze in the evenings around that time and it says an hour 15, but I know sometimes they aren't too accurate with traffic. Was hoping it was closer to an hour 15 than to 2 hours

Maybe 20 years from now you can take a new bridge right to work

This will be your problem. Usually the drive to Plaquemine in the morning isn’t that bad, barring any wrecks on the bridge (or stalled 18-wheelers, or dump trucks hitting the intracoastal bridge, etc…).
The drive back to BR, though, is predictably shitty. At 4-5 PM, you’re going to be stuck at basically walking speed from at least the intracoastal to the I-10/110 merger. That’s if there aren’t any wrecks on I-10 between the bridge and the 10/12 split.
Two things I would suggest:
1. If there’s any flexibility in your work hours, take advantage of it. The traffic sucks at 3PM too but it gets way worse at 4-5ish.
2. Since you live in Mid City, try to see if there’s a decent route you can take from the Highland/Nicholson exit. That way you can somewhat bypass the bridge choke point. If there’s a route on surface streets that takes 5-10 minutes longer on average, it’s worth it to avoid the inevitable moments when you pass up that exit and realize there’s a lane closed at Acadian or College.

I worked in Plaquemine for nearly four decades. I now laugh when I see the bridge in the afternoons. Move to the West side. It has it's problems, but at least you'll have time with your family.

It’s a crap shoot. Most days, 1:15 is probably accurate. The problem is that you’re fighting both bridge traffic AND normal BR rush hour traffic if you leave Plaquemine between 4 and 5.
The “Dow traffic” starts at 3ish so it’s pretty hard to avoid the slowdown from LA1 to the bridge. But it’s the wrecks on I-10 in BR during rush hour that really frick you over, and can easily turn 1:15 into 2 plus hours. It doesn’t happen every day, but it happens often enough and it absolutely sucks to be stuck on the bridge in a parking lot for 30+ minutes.
ETA: I don’t normally work in Plaquemine, but I do have to go to customer sites there fairly often. Usually I find that if I can leave Plaquemine before 2:30-3, it’s smooth sailing with a minor slowdown at the I-10 on-ramp. From 3-4 it’s basically a crawl from the on-ramp to the 10/110 merger. After 4, you just pray that there are no wrecks.

Just move out there if you really have to take the job. Not worth it otherwise

You will be fine once the new bridge is built

From the 1960s-1980s my grandfather lived in White Castle and worked in Baton Rouge. Even when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's he would complain about traffic (and he and some of his co-workers carpooled, leaving at 6am) between Plaquemine and the intracoastal.
From 88-91 I lived with them and did the same drive (except reversing the hours). While I was usually going counter to traffic, it was only marginally better. More often than not it was like saying "oh, that ice cream has dog shite in it but this ice cream is better because it has less dog shite in it". Generally it was from 30-45 minutes for to go from the bridge in Plaquemine to the 10-110 split (or vice versa) back then (if memory serves).
Since that time infrastructure along the Plaquemine/intracoastal corridor has remained the exact same despite the population growth there.
So take that for what it's worth.

Sounds like I'll have to figure something out hours wise. I know one guy who works there and lives off of Highland, but he has been WFH mostly since last March, so he may have forgotten the hell of the commute lol.

Also keep in mind the replacement of the tunnel and bridge, you know they will screw up traffic patterns for a good while, and of course the new tolls to get over the intercoastal once done.

Quite possibly the worst commute someone could have given how few miles it actually is. I did it for almost 2 years and the drive home ranged from 1:15 to 3 hours in extreme cases (Sunshine bridge hit with barge while the intercoastal bridge was being repaired).
