Yeah, that's the big problem in Baton Rouge
quote:

The East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council is taking aim at drag racing, which law enforcement officials say has gotten out of control recently.

Councilman Rowdy Gaudet wants to toughen rules against such races on public streets, giving city-parish judges the ability to levy a $500 fine for first offenders and then $1,000 for second and subsequent infractions.

About time. Them and the motorcycles blaring music are downtown almost every night.

I mean, it’s gotten pretty ridiculous on Florida Blvd at night, but I think the city has bigger problems

Seems to be a nationwide issue with young guys modifying their cars and thinking they are competing in some sort of grand prix.

Completely obnoxious and unacceptable.

Hopefully they will air the video of the remorseless trigger puller firing on a 17 year old victim during an armed robbery at one of these drag races to the council during this debate and recognize the bigger problem, good old fashion violent crime.

You know, the elephant in the room we all see weekly.

You can't drive through a large parking lot in SBR without seeing at least 2 donuts carved into the pavement

It's the Metro Council. What do you want them to do, increase the penalty for murder?

Anyway, they are elected officials, and I imagine they have more voting constituents calling them and complaining about road noise at night than are calling about the murder rate. EBR has an annual budget of roughly $1B. More than one iron in the fire at any given time.

I was in Fairhope last week and was surprised to hear the engines there.

What does the East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council have to say about the homicide rate? Has it not gotten out of control?

Street racing is pretty insane in BR. I was at the red-light at Drusilla and Jefferson and two Challengers were just doing donuts in the intersection under the overpass.

Shitty thing was a cop just drove right by and didn't even bother.

I guess to be fair he could've been responding to a murder or shooting as it was a Thursday night.

It's a symptom of a larger issue. It's indicative of the big problem.

The Metro Council doesn't realize it though.

Just like car jackings, street racing is one of those crimes that proliferates when the criminal element feels like there are no consequences to their actions. It's a sign that the dregs of society are emboldened because they know there will be no real recourse.

The Metro Council calling this a big problem highlights their failure, but they're too stupid to realize it.

My wife was pulled over for coming to a rolling stop at a stop sign in a Central neighborhood once, on a Friday night at 10PM.

It's nothing that we weren't doing in our 5.0 Mustangs back in the 90's. Goldie's on Florida at Flannery was the spot back then. Sometimes Choctaw between Monterrey and Airline.

Good times, good times....
