...in some other states, too? It’s certainly not rare in California. When I was there last week, shelves were full of it everywhere.

When did drinkers everywhere become such elitist?
I find the bourbon phenomenon entirely interesting.

Buffalo Trace is not elitist at all. It’s a quality bourbon at a very reasonable price point.....if you can find it.

The last time I went to Destin, FL I remember seeing Buffalo trace locked up in a glass case with other top shelf bourbons. Meanwhile I can just drive over to a local store and find it on the shelf. It’s weird.

I know that. Think macro.
Buffalo Trace is a low tier, though great tasting, bourbon. It’s a mixer for me.

It should never be hard to find. Nor should Eagle Rare. But they are…Eagle used to be in abundance at grocery stores in Baton Rouge, and for $27. No longer…

My point is this. Why the sudden (10 years) popularity? Americans used to drink Red Dog and Budweiser. Now, we’ve got to have quality bourbon (Trace being a bottom qualifier).

What’s changed? Social media?

bourbon phenomenon

It’s not a phenomenon nor craze. It’s just going to be a mainstay from here on out.

If it was a craze or phenomenon it would have been well over by now.

You got older? Maybe 20 years ago, you and your poor friends were scrounging to but anything, even MD 2020, just to get a buzz? Then everyone got older, had more money, and prefer to buy better quality product?

The (somewhat) shortage had me exploring other value pours in that price range. Evan Williams bottled-in-bond (white label) punches well above its price point at $29/handle

It's hard to find at well traveled stores here in Nashville. Luckily the liquor store down the street from me usually has it, if I feel like walking over the needles and broken MD2020 bottles in the parking lot.

What else is going to be a mainstay is a bunch of young so so bourbons with cool bottles and stories going for premium price. And the old aged used to be regular bottom tier stuff is super rare limited release stuff with a maxed out price tag.

Pappygate happened and Netflix did a segment on Buffalo Trace on the series Heist. Now everyone wants it.
