HS football not terrible
ehhh maybe I was just spoiled by Louisiana football but I’ve not been impressed this far save for a couple schools in kc and a couple of the Wichita suburbs.

Over the last few weeks, i have come to the unfortunate conclusion that the B1G will expand westward into Big 12 country. This AAU thing is just so stupid, but the B1G is loyal to it. So here is what i think the B1G ends up looking like...

B1G East:

Ohio State
Penn State
Michigan
Michigan St
Maryland
Rutgers
Indiana
Purdue

B1G West:

Wisconsin
Nebraska
Iowa
Iowa St
Illinois
Northwestern
Minnesota
Kansas

Adding Kansas and Iowa St, both AAU members, to the B1G West and shifting Illinois and Purdue to the B1G East. Its such an easy move and that's why i think Warren will do it, because its the easy move. It doesn't mean its the right move though.

Texas and Texas A&M both raise the academic profile of the SEC, and I would expect both to have at least equal research budgets as Kansas

Same with Mizzou

That map of the Big 10 would sure look better with Missouri in it. Maybe they'll take Mizzou too!

You think KU and ISU will add enough revenue to keep the payout at 50 million? Highly unlikely. The other programs are not going to take a pay cut just to add 2 additional teams. They are not into charity.

Those teams get less ratings than the top American teams.

Here's the thing that people are forgetting: if KU and ISU leave the Big XII, there's one less major conference. The bidding goes to four conferences instead of five. The $ that was earmarked for that fifth conference has to go somewhere, so it's a question of how much value do you think these guys add relative to the rest of the conference. Obviously UT and OU add the most value, and the SEC will reap the benefits. But it might be worth it to FOX to take some money they had allocated for their Big XII deal and reallocate it to the Big Ten to help promote their basketball product as well.

Yes. Like people have already mentioned, the B1G will be looking at this from an AAU perspective. By adding two more AAU members, the amount of research funding could increase. People don't realize how much the research money dwarfs the network money. The B1G had almost 10 billion in research funding last year. More than double any other conference. Lastly, we are looking at this from a football perspective because its football season. Kansas brings a tremendous amount of prestige to the conference in basketball. So yes, this will be the direction i now believe the B1G will go. Massive amounts of research funding!!!

Does this move kind of depress anyone else? I’m in my mid thirties, it seems like the college football we once loved is changing into something completely different at an extremely fast pace

They are ruining the game for the pursuit of more money. Honestly makes me sick

The sec has 4 aau schools

Texas
A&M
Mizzou
Florida

I'm really surprised Vandy and uga are not as they are very good academic schools (compared to rest of sec).

Vanderbilt's an AAU member.

Federal research grant funding is a major part of the AAU evaluation, so Georgia probably will never get in unless it 1) gets a medical school and 2) tries to compete with Tech in science and engineering disciplines.

Neither option is honestly viable, though, without a change in state politics and substantial public/private investment.

This is so true! As I said before, the SEC is leaving the Big Ten in the dust as far as football goes!

SEC is going to gobble up North Carolina and Virginia next. Guaranteed
I think they will eventually end up in the Big Ten. The BIG is now becoming a Basketball Conference.

University of Georgia DOES have a medical school.

The Medical College of Georgia (often referred to as MCG) is the flagship medical school of the University System of Georgia, the state's only public medical school, and one of the top 10 largest medical schools in the United States.

Like quite a few southern state university medical schools, it is NOT located in the same town as the flagship university:

Georgia - Augusta
Mississippi - Jackson
LSU - New Orleans
Tennessee - Memphis
Arkansas - Little Rock

Cbus sports radio, James Laurentiis, said the only way Big Ten takes Kansas is if they can get Notre Dame. Notre Dame is the only big money maker left out there. Kansas does not move the needle or bring any $$$ to the table.

With OU and UT gone from the B12 there already is one less Power conference. What's left is G5 or mid-major or whatever you want to call it.
