Disconnect between Pels fans and media re: Lonzo

It's been interesting see the media universally thinking we made the wrong decision with letting Lonzo go, while most of this board is happy with letting him go.
I personally am very happy he moved on - he was a painful player to watch, and I do not think he would be a positive piece for a winning team. I would have liked to see us trade him at the deadline to get more return, but I am happy we didn't double down on that mistake but re-signing him.
So who is right? Are we, the fans, wrong about Lonzo or is it everyone else that didn't watch him night after night?

its not so much the letting go part but the shite return part is what was shitty or unexpected.

I believe we would have gotten more at the trade deadline or last summer. They had to know he wanted to be gone. Trade him then and get the value.

He has potential but he’s a little inconsistent. His contract price increases because of his name as well. In the end, he wanted out so not much more we can do.

I think the media is shocked we let him go since he is looked at as lonzo the former #2 pick.
On top of that they probably know that it's hard to get a replacement to come to nola in free agency.
It is risky if you think about it. The team was looking good when everything was clicking.

Lots of media didn’t watch our games as much as they should have. If you just looked at the stats, Lonzo looks like a player who has finally figured out how to be that promising prospect people first envisioned. If you watched the games though, you’d see a player that struggles running offense in the half court due to his lack of athleticism and finishing at the rim, a guy who struggles to fight through and communicate during screens, and a guy who has a limited offensive tool set in the clutch whenever games are close and defenses get tight. Lonzo is a good player, but a team that pays Lonzo 20+ million a year has a limited playoff ceiling.
I know this is petty, but the end of that Knicks game when he inexplicably left Bullock open in the corner to tie the game was the straw that broke me. The guys were told repeatedly in the huddle not to leave shooters and give up the lane and he sagged off their best 3pt threat to “help” on a drive. Low IQ, inexcusable shite like that is the reason we lost a ton of close games last year. I wish Zo the best, but I’m ready to move on.

I don't think any broadcast media cover the Pels except for Fletch. None of them realized that Lonzo wasn't the primary point guard.

You fans don’t know anything about basketball, so it doesn’t matter if you watched him every night. And most of you have 1st grade comprehension skills. No one is saying Lonzo was gonna be the next Jason Kidd, what we’re saying is we could’ve gotten more for him & re-signing him would’ve been a better plan than whatever tf we’re doing now. Even if he doesn’t fit, he’s a better trade piece than anything we brought back, and those players (2 backups) show no signs of helping us win any more than Lonzo would have even if we did keep him. Some of us get irritated with our dumbass fan base because they are so emotional & hate Lonzo so much for NO reason that they’re unwilling to acknowledge the bad deal. And that’s why you make threads like this to make yourselves feel better when the rest of the basketball world is telling you you’re wrong. You’re wrong. Doesn’t matter how many of these idiot fans come in here & say y’all are right. Y’all empty trash cans, scan candy bars or put stickers on car parts for a living.

Lonzo seems like he scores 80 percent of his points in the first quarter.
None of his 3s seem impactful or when we really need them.
To be fair, Ingram is kind of like this too, but he's a million times better.
I wouldn't be shocked at all if Ball's 3 point percentage drops. His shot is still goofy looking and without constantly practicing, I think he'll revert.
He's also WILDLY inconsistent. 5-12 one night and 1-15 the next.
I'd much rather someone who is a steady 38% shooter than such highs and lows. You never know what you're getting with him.

I actually liked Lonzo and still think he hasn't reached his ceiling... but how many close games did we lose last year because the defense had ZERO respect for our $21 million "shooter"?
If he suddenly starts shooting 10-12 free throws a game and shooting 38-40% from 3, then I'll agree that we fricked up

So if he doesn’t fit and starts to dog it(aka like Bledsoe did last year) and plays bad basketball, how exactly would he be a good trade piece at 21-22 million a year

What’s missing is the key to the equation...they might not help increase the number of wins, but that doesn’t mean they will cause an increase in the number of losses.
Getting rid of a “bad fit” who doesn’t want to be there has value as well.

Naw the problem is a lot of Pel fans do not watch the rest of the league. This became painfully obvious when discussing Lonzo and the unrealistic expectations. “If he just did this and this blah blah blah..” yea, if he did all the things people here wanted him to do he’d be the next Magic
Of course we are now pumped for Graham, who, if you removed his best shooting month, becomes at 35% from 3 guy (fun Lonzo exercise). Who got to the rim less than half the time Lonzo did and converted substantially less that Ball. Who is not particularly good on defense. Oh yea he’s 26. He’s the shiny new toy but you can bet he will be hated on fairly quickly

Lonzo is an improving player and an asset who we let go for nothing. I’m not the biggest fan of his game, but Griffin botched this one.

I mean both can easily be true. I’ve heard multiple national guys straight up say they haven’t really watched the Pels games. The ones that do watch most of the games, feel a very similar way that the most rational on here do about Lonzo: He’s a starter level player that has improved, but still has severe limitations. If you pay him 20+ million a year, those limitations cap your ability to build a high level playoff team.
I’d argue that lots of national guys feel like what you you said:

I wish we could have gotten more too, and there is no denying that Griffin could’ve played the “game” better to squeeze out a slightly better return, but the dude didn’t want to be here, period. That really torpedos your leverage when the player is set on leaving no matter what. The people that complain about how we just let Lonzo go for nothing I’m sure also complained about Eric Gordon’s attitude in the years after we matched his offer.

Lots of people here lack the brain cells to understand that the only truly good trade pieces are players who outperform their contracts.
Aside from the Bulls, literally every other team in the NBA thinks that Lonzo Ball is worth less than $21 million right now. So, if 29 out of the 30 teams in the league think that Lonzo is not worth $21 million this year, why in the world would you think that he "will be a good trade piece" in a year?
Now, if Lonzo explodes into an All-Star next season, then it's a different story. But few of us who watched him play all last season think that this is going to happen.

What's he improving in besides shooting? Serious question.
He's not any better at driving, passng, defense, is still injured 1/4 of the time and is invisible in the 4th.
