guys that we even knew at the time had to play way above their current careers to justify.

That’s not the case with Lonzo.

Well, that depends on what you mean by "way," because I don't think that Lonzo has played at the level of $21 million per. Lonzo got paid on potential -- potential that I don't expect him to realize.

if you removed his best shooting month, becomes at 35% from 3 guy

Ehhh. He was really good the whole second half of the year.

He shot 45.5% in March. He followed that up with 36.4% and 38.6%.

Post ASB he shot 39.6% (30 games)
Pre ASB he shot 34.6% (25 games)

Lonzo had 2 really good months, 2 really bad months, and 2 mediocre months. Devonte just had a bad start to the season.

The market does, and that’s all that matters.

Proof: multiple credible rumored suitors for Lonzo around 21 million dollars.

All of those being based on potential is assumption and not really based on any proof.

And there is pretty much no evidence that Lonzo will regress. He’s improved every year and is only 23.

I don’t even love Lonzo but it feels like everyone is trying to unjustifiably shite on Lonzo to try and talk themselves into this offseason being better than it actually has been.

How much potential do you think he has & what makes you think he won’t realize it.
He’s improved every year he’s been in the league all while under terrible circumstances.
Unless you expect him to be the next Magic Johnson, I don’t see a reason why you think he won’t reach his potential.

He plays notably better off the bench than as a starter and that is a piece of context that should be kept in mind.

For instance his best month, March, saw him play a majority of his games off the bench.

Off the bench he has a 64% ts, 53% ts as a starter.

That’s concerning for a guy you are going to be scaling up and asking more of when he hasn’t shown the sort of consistency you like to see when moving a player to a bigger role.

I like Graham, but I think if most were honest you’d like to be bringing him in as your sixth man, not your starting point guard.

Besides shooting” like that isn’t huge

His scoring efficiency at the rim increased every year. For any other player, many would say that’s a sign of possibly improving in that facet of the game. “Just gotta get there more!”. Of course you’re asking one to be a killer at the rim at the same time he’s going from a terrible 3P and FT shooter to a good one

He drastically reduced his turnover rate while increasing his usage. Huge in a young player

He led the Pels in defensive win shares both seasons here. Higher marks than Jrue last season. Again, may not be a world beater, but encouraging for a young player. Many would say team defense as whole makes the job of an individual defender tougher

He played 82% of possible games here. Injuries are a huge part of the league and you would struggle to find guys who can play a full slate consistently.

He wasn’t bad in the 4th last season. Bad this past season, sure. Alas, there are still 4Q, each one is important. Check the clutch stats vs the median of players his age, though.

And of course all told he’s started the equivalent of 2.5 seasons worth of NBA games, with two organizations and three coaches in four seasons. One nonexistent off-season bc of injury, one bc of covid. We will see if he can take the next step

You basically dispelled all their myths with this post. You’re fighting a losing battle tho. Regardless how many facts you submit, the truth is they don’t like Lonzo so it won’t matter.

It's just a little late in life to start growing a pair.

How many charges does Lonzo take? How often is he on the floor, diving for a loose ball? When did he show competitive fire on the court? How did he perform in the pressure of the bubble?

Our team has been lacking in toughness, we've been passive, and Lonzo's been a big part of that. I don't hate Lonzo, and I wouldn't even have complained if we'd decided to match at 4/$85, but I would have been nervous about it, because I don't believe that he's going to live up ot the contract, because I don't believe that he has a strong mental makeup.

I think Ball has reached his potential imo, he improved his J while in New Orleans, good for him. But he's not a good defensive player, never has been despite being 6'6, he could be or should be a fairly decent defensive guard at that size. He plays passive defense though, he's always been a good passer, but occassionally in games will throw some terrible passes where you're wondering what he was thinking on that pass. His lil brother is much better than him, lil bro will be a regular easten conference all star. No one is crapping on the guy like someone in this thread said, just stating what we feel about the guy's development and talent.
