Absolutely Great episode.
I hope Sam “talking to Ted” put an end to the Sam and Rebecca storyline as a main storyline at least on an every episode basis. Roy/Keely seems to cover the relationship side of the show just fine and the Rebecca searching for love arc just made the show a bit to network melodramatic at times for my taste.
I thought one of the biggest missteps of season 2 was bringing back Jamie and not showing more of his transformation into a good leader/man. It just kind of happened quickly without any kind of real acknowledgment from Ted if I’m remembering correctly, especially after bringing a father figure into his life to give him a chance at being a better man seemed so important to him early in season 2.
Love that they have a very despicable villain for season 3. I’m predicting they beat west ham in the FA cup final. Winning the premier league would be REALLY far fetched for a team of Richmond’s stature. West ham isn’t consistently successful enough to be the main antagonist club vying for that title either.
Arlo white mentioned them never having a trophy, not never winning the league title at the end of episode 12. A Cinderella March through the FA cup tournament would not only bring them back to Wembley and make up for this season semi final loss but also be more realistic.

More likely at Keeley’s new firm.

They went all Star Wars for the villain aspect. Rupert being the main antagonist while Nate gradually turns to the dark side like Anakin.

I know little of soccer rules so maybe someone can explain why they did not go to the "playoffs" after they tied the last game of the regular season to get promoted? Do the lower leagues not have playoff or did they just skip that?
Also....Nate can be a great villi an next year.

In this league, the top two teams get automatic promotion to the Premier League. 3rd-6th place have a playoff for the final promotion spot.

I think Bill Lawerence has said that they run a little fast and loose with the official soccer rules.

OK just watched it.
I guess I finally got a sense of why Nate is so angry. He hates that Ted got the job as HC and is so popular despite being a coach with so little actual soccer knowledge, whereas Nate's career has been a constant struggle. That was a great scene and Nick did a great job. I think most of us have known people like this. People who are constantly bitter about everything and are frustrated because their personality sucks and no one really likes them.
I loved how Roy didn't feel the slightest bit threatened by Nate kissing Keeley. He didn't give a shite.
Unless the actor himself wanted to leave, I thought it was inevitable that Sam was staying. I wasn't expecting that reaction from Edwin Akufo, but it fit his character perfectly--a young rich guy with a massive ego and grandiose plans.

I just read Nick's lengthy re-cap of Nate's character arc and the clever writing that shaped it over the two seasons.
I had been thinking that he might suffer the same level of hate as Skyler/Anna Gunn (who took a lot of abuse from people who couldn't separate the character from the actor), but I think his deft handling of this situation, using social media, is helping him out tremendously.

I know enough to see that one of Richmond’s goals last night was offsides and for some reason it bothered me a fair amount.

Yeah that could be quite annoying. Ted is basically a cheerleader and motivational speaker for the team with his only coaching moments coming in warmups. It seems it’s Beard and Roy that are the actual coaches.
But everyone seems to know that Ted has a ton of help. Nate was someone who never got any attention. So now he can’t get enough. He couldn’t stand being just another major helper for Ted. He also doesn’t have the best communication skills to talk it out calmly.
He’ll definitely have a redemption ark. Maybe he will even take over for Ted if he moves back at the end of the show.

Nah, Tart wasn't off if you're talking about the final goal. He timed his run.
But why the frick would Brentford be playing such a high line when they have a 2-1 lead in stoppage time?

It also probably helps him that he still does stand-up and that he is also playing a lovable comedic character opposite David Schwimmer on another show at the same time.

At the very least I think they get a chance to relegate West Ham next season.

It would appear set up for Rebecca to truly get one over on her ex by relegating him. No worse embarrassment than taking a team that hasn’t accomplished much and sending his new team down a league. And you get the opportunity to serve Nate the humble pie he deserves.

Nate isn't mad Ted got HC he was grateful to Ted for making him a coadh. He was spiteful that Ted asked Roy to be a coach. He even said it "you made me feel like the most important person in the world then ignored me". That's referring to making him a coach then ignoring him for Roy.
Next season should be great!
