Recruiting down here won’t be an issue. The question is will he still be able to get difference makers from places like Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York like we currently have in the pipeline? Or will he replace the need to go North/Midwest with his West coast connections.

A majority of our players are from out of state. Seems like we always have contributors who are from California.

If Vitello was at Arizona and Johnson was at UT this hire would be considered a slam dunk. Most of this board has no idea who he is.

Jay Johnson doesn't strike me any different than when we hired Paul M. I think he will do great here. He's definitely going to be hungry.

and that’s your problem. Everyone’s expectations were insane. It was a legitimate search, they interviewed a shite ton of people, and found the best fit. They didn’t put all their eggs in a basket. And some people turned us down. This is the way it works but we had a lot of legitimate choices to choose from because the search was done so well.Availability is key here. We hired the best person that was available to us.

Do you realize we have 5 players from the west coast on the current team? 2 of which were regular starters. One of the best players in recent memory was from the west coast.

I wonder who he targets there……is Dunn absolutely cleaning out his office now? I’d expect so.

We had fricking people that didn’t want Corbin so yeah the expectations for this hire we’re wild

Johnson checks most of the boxes many said they wanted with this hire

Some are Vitello crashing but one of two things happened there 1) his number was ridiculous for what he’s accomplished 2) the anti Vitello people from within were so against him it was a non starter.

I’m surprised you of all posters has this take. Johnson has been a winner everywhere he’s been. There’s a reason Serrano is a nobody. He also wasn’t even good at Fullerton with what he inherited. That’s just a ridiculous comparison besides the fact they’re both WC guys lol

Yeah, there's some that are just upset that we didn't get Vitello, but I think he's gonna be a great hire.

The regional recruiting issue people are making up is so dumb

Thank. You. This is the dumbest argument when people try to make it. The whole he's a "West Coast guy he isn't used to down here" thing is so generic and overblown.

Truly good recruiters are good anywhere and not region dependent.

Congrats on Dave Serrano part deux. This is a disaster.
this is funny to me. Johnson doesn’t play small west coast ball lol. Not even remotely the same. Look at the sac bunts for Johnson the last few years. His teams hit the shite out of the ball. Serrano is similar to Johnson in that he’s from Cali. That’s it lol

I think in football it’s a little more important to have those relationships.
