Hitting a baseball gets exponentially more difficult as the ball is thrown harder with more movement.

I think it’s dumb to conclude that Ted Williams would destroy modern pitching, from the evidence we have.

Are you also figuring in he would have modern scouting and training too?? Modern health and fitness?? As pitching gets better so does hitting

Ted Williams was a real badass. Just better than so many of the soy athletes of today.

Yes, I considered it.

False

As pitchers get better, hitters get better. It’s about the athlete.

Nowadays we have the ability and incentive to find THE best. There is less room to separate your skills and ability and desire.

I think Ted Williams definitely not be considered the greatest hitter of all time if he played today.

It’s funny you say that

Ted was asked by a writer at Red Sox Spring Training, where he was hired as a consultant by the team, what he thought he would hit with the current level of pitching in the league.

He responded, “Oh, I guess about .275.”

The writer said, “Wow, you think the pitching is that much better, Ted?”

And he replied, “Well, Hell son, I’m 72 years old!”

Your argument is old. Been done many times over. Go waste your time on something else.

But before I leave this alone, answer me this.

How many check swings did Ted Williams have in his career?

That was supposedly Ty Cobb who said that.

Not sure about Cobb, but Ted Williams definitely is quoted saying it

And to answer my own question, there is no recorded instance of a Ted Williams check swing

From Ted, teammates, opponents, fans, umpires, or the press

Just think about how absurd that is

The big question back in the day was what if Williams (left handed hitter) played in Yankee Stadium with the short left field porch and DiMaggio (right handed hitter) played in Fenway with the green monster.

Boston and New York seriously discussed this trade at least once.
