Let's not overreact to "unnamed" sources and create narratives in our own heads.

The facts are SVG won't be our coach next year - this is a good thing. Let's get someone on board ASAP, make some offseason moves, and start building some team chemistry. This team still has a lot going for them.

Don't forget major markets have everything to gain and nothing to lose by sowing discord.

Let's let the next season play out. The sky is not falling.

Yet.

A big problem is Griffin isn't the only one who has/had strong relationships with the media who will cover for him. Stan has his media relationships too so things will be spun to make Stan look like the competent one. The same applies to JJ Redick even though he was an absolutely atrocious basketball player this season. No one blinks twice at the Redick deal if we were a winning team.

odds that this entire "rift" is based off of some reporter talking to Zion's biological dad..?

Will Guillory will be on the Sports Hangover at 12:30, who is supposedly one of the co-writers of this story.

I read the article. From what I gather stan was a major source of discontent. Pels need to hit the nail on the head in FA and get the right coach.

Two things I'm supremely confident Griff can do.

I get zion and his family not liking the coach and how this team was built but jj redick, come on.

If true, zion sounds like a little bitch.

Oh I'm sorry that was major sarcasm. I'm fricking horrified.

The scariest part of that Griff interview is him saying he doesn't think it's fair to ask for BI and Zions input in personnel decisions. That's how you lose superstars.

When the Pels traded J.J. Redick to Dallas in March, it not only upset Redick but also is said to have irritated Williamson. Redick had asked to either be traded before the season or to stay in New Orleans all season for family reasons and proceeded to blast the organization and executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin on his podcast after the trade. Redick was a veteran with whom Williamson had grown comfortable in their two seasons together, and the dysfunction Redick accused the Pelicans of harboring is said to have stoked some of Williamson’s own feelings with regards to the direction of the franchise.

I told y'all this JJ stuff would be really bad for us. But NOOOOOOOO the sunshine pumpers had to defend Griffin

Wait we’re still with the JJ bullshite? He was terrible in his time last year and we got actually usable assets in return for him. What are we doing here?

Pelican star players should have had the balls to hold JJ Redick accountable for the shite season he gave us. He nearly single handedly cost us a run in the playoffs due to his ineptitude of commitment to the team and his single fricking craft of making the 3 ball. He should have been kicked in his liberal fricking white nut sack instead of being praised and worshipped by players on the team for thinking he was something that he wasn't. frick JJ Redick.

They don’t understand how that looks to the rest of the team an easy way to lose trust especially when the team is losing

Sounds like everything irritates zion and his mom. The jj trade isn't going to be the thing that makes him leave the pels.

That shite is way overblown anyway.

I really think that the pandemic bears a lot of the blame. SVG didn't have time to get to know his players. There was only a very brief camp, where the team did not have the opportunity to work on offense at all. The team couldn't bond, because there were no team dinners or other group activities. Etc.

Major changes in culture and philosophy take a ton of time, under the best of circumstances. Given the late start and the other restrictions, expecting this to happen in one season was a pipe dream.

I think there are a number of parallels between this situation, and the situation with Bo Pelini and LSU. Bo was trying to dramatically change the defense philosophy. Under best of circumstances, it was going to take 2-3 seasons to get the right players on the team and for the team to truly understand. But after one season that was hamstrung with COVID crap, they pulled the plug. The players on the team did not buy in, and it takes time to get players who do.

I think Griffin blames almost all of the blame for trying to hire a coach that was so dramatically different than what this team was used to... and then not giving him time to make the changes.

It also proves that this is a player led league. If the players don't like a coach, they just don't listen to him, and get him fired.

Really?

Why?

I think this is why your are hearing theresa witherspoon talk.
They are trying to placate zion and his mom.

No matter the coach, griffin needs to put shooting around zion.

The Redick debacle could go down as being catastrophic. I think we are just starting to learn just how much he poisoned the well here. Shades of Kendrick Perkins/AD.

I don't think the gravity of missing the playoffs this season registered with a lot of you. We really needed to have made the playoffs last season. Coupled with the fact we missed them this year is almost the writing on the wall for Zion.

It probably doesn't matter who we hire now. We could make the finals next season and I think we're still bracing for Z to force a trade.

Truthfully if this is his attitude towards the team. Might be best to sell high if things don’t change after next season.
