During an interview, she says obesity is not an epidemic and does not cause a host of illnesses.

LINK

At the 10:30 mark, regarding myths: "Some of the most common beliefs that students come to the class with is the notion that we are in the midst of an obesity epidemic. We have adopted this language of 'epidemic' when we talk about fat bodies as if it's something you catch..."

"...which feeds into one of the other common myths, which is that obesity causes a host of illnesses, many of which are life-threatening."

27;00: "How might we be working to change the world if we weren't so busy counting calories?"

Well it's not contagious so that's a point

Uh, that's probably the one area where science has a 100% consensus on anything

Lord, where to begin…. Fat Studies Professor?

FFS

Imagine if you got a bill from your child’s college and learned that they were studying fat.

"It's fatism. When a skinny person goes to the doctor and complains about pain or some other ailment, They will run various scans to get to the heart of the issue. Notice how cancer patients tend to be leaner?

But when a fat person goes to the doctor and complains about anything...."just some diet and exercise should do the trick"

That's why I fat people die before skinny people, Doctors won't treat fat people unless it's just to give them pain meds to shut them up"

We need to massively defund universities if "fat studies" is actually public funded research. What is so complicated? If you eat more and move less, you get fat.

How else do you jump from 30.5% obese to 42.4% of Americans in only 20 years?

I don't think people should make fun of people's weight, but we shouldn't pretend it's healthy to be fat.

For most, being made fun of for their weight makes them depressed and it makes the problem worse. Some get sucked into the fat acceptance world out of desperation and mental illness, and the more they get made fun of, the further into that world they go. Then eventually you get Fat Studies at a university.

Well said

Although the university should be defunded for promoting anti science

If you weigh 350+ can you have the courses waived and be granted the PhD in Fat Studies?

Oh frick her. She is using word salad to mislead here. Illness being something like the flu. Fat doesn't cause that. Disease being something like diabetes. Fat is 100% linked to that. So she's technically right but she is wrong for even putting it out there in that matter.

Perfect example would be COVID. Being fat won't make you catch it more than someone else. But it will make it worse and potentially fatal.

This is a joke. It’s hard to be shredded but it’s not difficult at all to not be a complete fatass

Sure. I'll bet this cow hasn't looked at the calorie content on a label in decades.

I’ve heard an NPR segment on this.

They are basically saying that just because you’re obese doesn’t necessarily mean you are unhealthy. You can be considered obese but have good cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. These speakers also claimed that “the data is biased”.

These people are twisted
