Ive always added butter. It prob doesnt do anything too great of value, but why not?
The extra salt is ridiculous. But the vegetable oil is crazy. Thats a lot of oil to add to a pot of water at a rolling boil.

Don't add extra salt when using a packaged mix.
What is the oil for?
Why three types of onions?

I am biased, but I think mine come out really good but I don't add
I've never used the Pro Boil, but I know it has less sodium that the regular, so the extra salt may make sense.
I feel like this may be overkill, how long does he soak them? If he's trying to do a quick soak 20-30 minutes; you can just soak them a little longer and not add as much liquid or any cayenne. Mine usually soak around 35-40 minutes and I just use 1 regular boil & 6-8oz of liquid.
As others said, it's a little overkill with onions, I'd eliminate the diced & 6 red onions. I would also do either 6 white or 6 yellow, not both.
I also half my garlic, but I use the soaking bags for my sausage, mushrooms, potatoes, garlic... so not worried about them splitting and getting lost.

1 bunch green onion
4 sticks butter

Now that I am re reading that recipe, I am wondering if the person adds the extra salt because of so much vegetables.
18 onions
12 garlic
Celery
All of that does soak up a lot of salt.

That was easy.

The only reason to not add more salt, is bc you just don’t want to eat a lot of salt.
Adding salt brings out all of the flavor from everything you’ve added. Ive added 3/4 of a pound of salt to my 120 qt pot for 2 decades now and have never been told they’re too salty.

My thoughts exactly. I’m sure it’s not bad but a lot of useless items. Everyone has their “special ingredients” but at the end of the day it mostly tastes like crab boil. The biggest thing is not to over/under cook them and don’t go too heavy with the damn liquid and cayenne

All that bullshite and just "pretty good."
Posted on 6/11/21 at 4:51 pm to Vrai
What do you want me to say. I didn’t bust a nut when I ate them and I also didn’t throw up so like I said, pretty good.

Where do I start? Decisions decisions.

Don’t add salt or cayenne pepper and use regular boil.
Cut it to between 4-8oz liquid based on taste
Cut the butter
No green onions
No veg oil
No beer
No instant onion whatever that is
No dried garlic
Cut all white and red onions
Start there.

Since no one else said it:
PRO BOIL SUCKS BIG SWEATY BALLS..
Also you do not need all varieties of onions or the “diced onions”, no oil, or beer that’s just silly but I like to add one stick of unsalted butter while mine soak.

FIFY ...
quote:
Cajun Land Boil (one jar)
8 oz bottle Louisiana liquid boil
1 Bag Chackbay
12 lemons halved
6 yellow onions halved
12 garlic pods cut across, above the equator towards the North Pole (lets them cook and get the season, but keeps them from falling out - keeps the whole thing intact)
1 bunch of celery chopped into 2 inch pieces
20 red potatoes halved
4 lb sausage
3 lb baby bella mushrooms
frozen corn to add during the soak (about 24 ears)

This is the problem. Base amount of ingredients on amount of water, not the amount of crawfish.

Mainly, I don’t see the point of adding fat, of any amount, to a boil. The onions seems like major overkill but not that they would hurt anything. I questioned the entire liquid boil but the last boil we did we did the pro boil and some liquid boil (not as much as this) and it wasn’t spicy enough for any of us so maybe it’s not too much, after all.

This sounds like an ingredients list that LSU Coyote would use.

Honestly since he’s only using zat pro boil it probably does need extra salt.
Zat pro boil has 1/2 the amount of salt in it as their normal pre mix and 2/3 the amount of other brands such as Louisiana and Cajun land
Extra cayenne and liquid is strictly bringing heat. Not much added flavor. If you like them spicy that’s fine. I personally like just using the 8oz liquid with no cayenne.
I assume he uses the Vegetable oil and butter because some fella told him it makes his crawfish peel better. If you cook them correctly this isn’t necessary. Id nix that.
All the diff onions is over kill but I doubt it’s causing any harm. The green onions? That’s a new one for me.
And yes the beer is a complete waste.
