Lol one was fluke arse Ohio State and the other was Alabama who was really a #2 or #1 that just happened to drop a head scratcher late in the season to Auburn. Historically the #4 has been terrible and none competitive.

I understand it's a subtle brag by a Ohio State fan since they did it first but your team is hot garbage. Bunch of slow corn fed retards running around embarrassing themselves.

8 seems like a better number

Look at it as an 8 team playoff, but the 5-8 seeds have a mini play-in tournament with the 9-12 seeds. So that the arguments about who should be included in the 8 team playoff are minimized.

If the NCAA and CFP were really concerned about player health and safety like they claim, they wouldn't continue extending the season for the almighty corporate dollar.

Personally, I feel an 8 team playoff could easily be implemented.

- Trim Division 1 down to 96 teams.
- Re-align and form 8 12 team conferences.
- Move back to an 11 game season.
- Every conference now has a conference championship game.
- Winners of the conference championship games go to the 8 team playoff, so essentially it's a 16 team playoff. The losers get New Years day bowl bids or whatever.
- First round of the playoffs is at the home fields of the 1-4 seeded teams.
- Now the real kicker. Semifinals and Championship game in the same city a week apart. Simplifies travel for fans and teams. Rotate this around 4-6 cities.

Granted the above doesn't necessarily serve the almighty corporate dollar, so clearly it would never work.

A team like 2001 LSU, which got very hot at the end of the year, as a 12 seed, could definitely win the natty. It probably won't happen very often, but it's always possible.

And that's the problem. You want to see 3 and 4 loss teams play for a title, go watch the NFL.

But I'll bet you won't bother watching it until the playoffs, amirite?

Or better yet, why not just scrub the playoffs completely and just give everyone a participation trophy. I mean, we don't want to leave anyone out do we?

RIP Bowl Games

Bowl games are already dead, this would actually help them IMO because there will be more top end interest and less sitting out. And you're only losing 4 games with the first round. With the playoff at 4, nobody really gives a shite about those 4 games, at least that has been the whining excuse on here. Now hypothetically 5-12 matter.

Where they are fricking up is not getting rid of Conference Championship Games and not guaranteeing at least one Group 5 team. We don't need CCG's anymore, at least in the Power 5.

It takes the best of both previous systems that people bitched about. People wanted a playoff during the BCS but big bowls still mattered. Now those games matter again, they are just in a different format. People bitch that nothing else matters with a 4 team playoff, now more games matter and we still have a playoff.

Now they need to cut the schedule to 11 games and get rid of CCG's.

Is it normal? Any team that’s talented enough to win the whole thing and gets “hot” will be ranked very highly. Usually the teams ranked 10-12 aren’t all that good.

Normal? No, but it does happen. The LSU team mentioned above is one example. Another was the 2012 Texas A&M team. Ranked 9th at the end of the regular season. That team could have made some noise in a playoff, and possibly win it.

I can't wait to hear more excuses on why the regular season doesn't matter when two 9-2 teams meet in the final game of the season as a pseudo play-in game.

The bowl system literally gave 41 teams out of 130 a trophy in 2019.

Just going to switch the controversy from arguing who is the 4th deserving team to who is the most deserving 10th, 11th, and 12th teams. Teams ranked 9th through 16th will all argue that they should fill those seeds.

THIS....it absolutely blows my mind the people who in one sentence say "its going to kill the regular season" and then advocate for the bowl system, which literally makes the regular season meaningless. 30+ bowl games with over 60+ teams...some of them have been 5-7...and we are talking about "participation trophies". Blows my mind....

Agreed...the bowl system is already dead. Players opting out in every game. Attendance in the tank. Its almost like people havent been watching football for the last 5 years. This is going to be a MAJOR upgrade over the current product.

The bowl system should've never expanded to 41 games.

It should just be around 30. No point in rewarding sub 500 or even 6-6 teams.

Minor side effect. What this does, is it gives an entire block of college athletes a shot at a championship.

NCAA DI P5 = Playoff
NCAA D1 G5 = Playoff Purgatory
NCAA D1 FCS = Playoff
NCAA DII = Playoff
NCAA DIII - Playoff

G5 literally had nothing to play for. Imagine trying to recruit a kid to come to your school and have nothing to say about trying to win a championship. We all saw it with Boise St, UCF and Cincinnati. I would rather eliminate that old discussion, if it means it creates a new conversation about who is 13th or 14th. With home sites, this is going to create some never before seen atmospheres. I would love to see LSU, UGA or Fla playing at Penn St in Happy Valley in a white out, 20 degrees with flurries in the air. Count me the frick in!!!! If you would rather watch two teams, with half of their roster sitting out, play in the CapitalOne Bowl because of "tradition"....i cant help you!!

30????? That's still WAAAAAY too many. Again, the last 30 years has been the greatest welfare "trophy generation" in the history of college football...and yet people are complaining about 12 teams...12...making the playoffs???

I am not even a Penn State fan, but i give them major props for their stadium environment. Nobody...and i mean nobody...does the "white out" better than Penn State. I would love to see that scene for a playoff game.

Ill take this Penn St scene, hosting a playoff game...

Over this lame Fiesta Bowl scene...

All of you "regular season" people can keep your lame arse bowl system and traditions.

I don’t mind the expanded playoffs. As a fan, I enjoy more college football even though a couple of the games won’t be competitive.

Also, for how tough the SEC is, I welcome more SEC teams into the fold.

I won’t be surprised when LSU gets hot and wins the CFP one year with 3 losses.
