The four highest-ranked conference champions would be seeded one through four and each would receive a first-round bye
As I read this, Notre Dame will never get a bye.

OSU won it all as a 4 seed

So they'll likely face a top 5-7 team in the country but they'll get to do it at home.
Unless I missed something, I don't think that is necessarily true. The 5th and 6th highest ranked conference champions aren't automatically the 5th and 6th seed. So, the G5 champion will need to be in the top 8 to get a home game.

From what I am reading, the G5 team won't necessarily get the home game, and would most likely have to travel to the 5 seed to get blown out. I wonder if Notre Dame will get an exemption from being a conference champion and be able to receive a bye.
Overall, I think moving to 12 is a dumb idea, I would have much preferred making it 6 teams consisting of the 5 P5 champions(to pacify the Pac 12/Big 12) and then 1 at large, with the 3 and 4 seeds getting home games.

Ah you're right. You just have to be a conference champion to qualify for the Bye.

With a conference title game in there, expecting fans to travel for four straight neutral site games
Playoff games about to be in front of covid crowds
Then keep the final 4 and title game neutral.
They blew it.

It'll be more like the September or late november cupcake games where they get the doors blasted off them.
except that theoretically should not have happened to the TOP G5 team...

Just keep continuing to devalue the regular season, morons.
That has already started with the opt out culture that has been making its way into the sport.

The proposal calls for the bracket each year to include the six highest-ranked conference champions, plus the six highest-ranked other teams as determined by the College Football Playoff selection committee. No conference would qualify automatically and there would be no limit on the number of participants from a conference.
So taking last year's final rankings:
Alabama at 1 from the SEC
Clemson at 2 from the ACC
Ohio State at 3 from the Big 10
Oklahoma at 6 from the Big 12
Cincinnati at 8 from the AAC
Coastal Carolina at 12 from the Fun Belt are the 6 highest ranked conference champions.
Then we'd add Notre Dame at 4 who was just throttled by Clemson.
Then Texas A&M at 5.
Then Florida at 7.
Then Georgia at 9.
Then Iowa State at 10.
Then Indiana at 11.

Regular season about to be meaningless

the quarterfinals and semifinals would be played in bowl games
This is too much travel. Quarterfinals should be at home. 5-8 get a home game but 1-4 don't? That doesn't make sense.
Tell the Rose and Sugar they can have a semifinal game the week after New Year's or they can kick rocks.

Lol #4 has been the whipping boy against #1 for years now. And there have been huge disparities in talent. Yet you gonna introduce 8 more unnecessary teams. The regular season is pretty much useless now. Getting a #12 ranking is easy work for most programs.

If this passes, Notre Dame would almost be certain to join the ACC and the league would end divisional play like last year.
I think it sucks that the top 4 seeds don't get to play one game in their yard...that should be looked at.

#4 has won the championship twice.

Complete and utter nonsense.
The 12 seed has zero chance of winning the national championship. Zero.
What about a 12 beating a 5 that half the media was sure deserved to be in the top 4 teams to get a bye? Is that also 100% a loss for the 12?
Yall are acting like NY6 bowls have been chalk since the CFP was installed.
If the top 4 is guaranteed to be in the semis every single year like many of you are predicting, what's the difference other than at least getting more games that mean something for matchups in subsequent rounds?

A team like 2001 LSU, which got very hot at the end of the year, as a 12 seed, could definitely win the natty. It probably won't happen very often, but it's always possible.

There’s no such thing as a zeros chance.
