I thought the attacks on the OP’s intentions were unnecessary as well
and to illustrate: I hope you die in a fire

Well shite. OP asked and looks like he received. Thanks thebabe.

Yeah but usually when it comes to a serious topic like someone sharing their struggles with mental illness, it changes tone.

To all the people on this board that didn't have the pleasure of knowing Bret, you would have fricking loved him. He was the kind of friend that was best man to many. Just a normal guy but so much bigger than I could ever explain. If you knew him, you know exactly what I mean.
I played for Bret many years ago. I know exactly what you mean. He was just an awesome individual. You just felt good when you were around him. I could not believe the news 7 years ago. Please let his son know that one of Bret’s former players is a better husband and father because I played for him.

Wow, this hit me. I love to hear from his former players. I save everything anyone writes about him to show Cohen when he's older. So he will definitely see it. Thank you for this.

I'm another one. I could not have asked for a better, more fun, coach. Stupid little anecdote for you, I was catching 1 game, with Brett sending me signals for the pitcher. He was irritated with the ump, and a little shite of a kid was at the plate. Brett threw down the finger, the bird specifically. I had no clue wtf that meant, but he was insistent. I gave it to the pitcher, who proceeded to drill the kid in the ribs. I had no idea that had a signal until that day. No one felt sorry for that little a-hole.

Unnecessary rudeness. Some of his closest friends don't even know the full story of what happened. And, if you knew Bret, then you would know that he would be thrilled to know people are asking about him on TD.
My only intention was that someone like you should tell the story. Someone that loved him and wouldn't feel disrespected on a very public forum. Thank you for sharing those extremely personal and intimate details of your life and of Bret.
Too often, this turns into a rumor mill of 'I heard this' and "I know that' and blah blah blah. I thought you both deserved better but now you've spoken. I'm glad to be wrong in this case.

I don’t think you could have responded in a better way. Thank you for explaining your intentions and for wanting to protect Bret’s story this way. It means so much to me.

Not sure why but I read this entire thread about a random person.
Certifies that even though you may see yourself as just an ordinary person, you are extraordinary to others.
No doubt his son will be proud of the legacy his dad left.

Did he go to McKinley Middle, was Friends with a guy named Jason Yates, or played for a soccer team called the Hulks or the Green Machines?
