USAToday: Hoover Dam faces an epic water shortage

In the article, all the usual causes are listed - record-breaking drought, lower snowfall runoffs in the Rockies, etc. - blamed unsurprisingly on “climate change”.
However, starting around the 56th paragraph, a hint of the real primary cause is given:
Remember what else happened in 1986?
President Reagan in the Roosevelt Room signing S. 1200 Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 with Dan Lungren, Romano Mazzoli and William French Smith. 11/06/1986.
And what does the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue suggest we do about it?
One word: MOAR
Our nation is on an irreversible path to economic and environmental collapse, and our “leaders” - past and present - have doomed us.
However, starting around the 56th paragraph, a hint of the real primary cause is given:
quote:I’m not sure what the geographic boundaries Reisner used to come up with that 20 million figure, but the current population of the states most affected by Lake Mead’s depleted condition are listed as California, Arizona and Nevada - which, according to 2020 census estimates, have a combined population of over 50 million today, up from 31 million in 1986, an increase of more than 60%.
In his 1986 book “Cadillac Desert,” Marc Reisner wrote that Hoover Dam “rose up at the depths of the Depression and carried America’s spirits with it. Its electricity helped produce the ships and planes that won the Second World War, and its water helped grow the food.”
But Reisner wrote that from these hopeful beginnings, “the tale of human intervention in the Colorado River degenerates into a chronicle of hubris and obtuseness” and that people in the river basin — at that time only 20 million — “will probably find themselves facing chronic shortages, if not some kind of catastrophe.”

Biden’s biggest immigration proposal to date would allow more new immigrants into the U.S. while giving millions of unauthorized immigrants who are already in the country a pathway to legal status. The expansive legislation would create an eight-year path to citizenship for the nation’s estimated 10.5 million unauthorized immigrants, update the existing family-based immigration system, revise employment-based visa rules and increase the number of diversity visas.
Our nation is on an irreversible path to economic and environmental collapse, and our “leaders” - past and present - have doomed us.

There are going to be some thirsty little sluts in the desert in the next 20 years

Maybe people should not live in desert?

Or along the gulf coast below sea level.

Sam Kinnison was screaming about this 3 decades ago

I was a dam builder
Across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around
Yes, I'll always be around and around and around and around and around and around
Across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around
Yes, I'll always be around and around and around and around and around and around

It's amazing that we can put a rolling robot on Mars and a man on the moon but we can't find a way to cheaply remove salt from sea water. Just saying.

This is actually a very interesting and baffling point, there is a huge double standard at play.
Hurricanes/Floods hit the Gulf coast, lefties question if we should even bother rebuilding. That's what we get for living below sea level in a swamp.
BUT, when Sandy hit New York, there was hardly a whisper in the same manner.
Whenever the West has fires or drought, it's all about climate change, not reference to unsustainable development in a desert.

Immigration is a necessity for an economy that grows. Not sure what to tell you about that.

How about the rate of immigration. What is the optimum Oh Wise One. Pray, tell us.

What we have now is not immigration. It is an invasion. This leads to inflation due to supply shortages and a larger gap between tax payers and government dependents.

Amazing that it's been stuck at the 10 to 12 million figure for 20+ years.
Is it just old illegals coming through year after year that have a 20 year life span? And if you add their kids (which should be the case) God knows what the number is.
The leaps of logic by the MSM to justify illegal immigration never surprise.

And?
What does it have to do with illegal immigration? Which has always been a net loss to the American tax payers

Unlimited immigration leads to unlimited growth. The medical term for unlimited growth is “cancer”.
Not sure how to tell you that growth isn’t necessarily a good thing, if seeing Lake Mead at historically low levels isn’t enough to make the point for me.
