My god this is a masterpiece.

Never been a fan of woke masturbatory humor.
But I would never begrudge anyone anything they find funny

I enjoy Bo Burnham as a comedian, and I think he's really talented as an artist and entertainer, but I've never really jived with his stand-up presentation - overproduced, too meta, too reliant on prerecorded, choreographed material.

Yea, I like him but it’s often not really laugh-out-loud funny

I don't know if it's that but it was pretty entertaining. I think if you had to describe it to someone you would have a difficult time. The meta sarcastic detached observational thing is a narrow comedic alley. It had a couple bits in it that I thought were hilarious. The sock song and the Bezos song. A random thought I had towards the end was that the Coen Brothers should put him in a Jeff Lebowski prequel. He's a talented dude but odd as frick.

He was fricking hilarious on Parks and Rec.

I only had time to watch the first half, but I thought it was incredibly fantastic.

I saw Bo Burnham live at Tipitina’s in late 2010 or early 2011, can’t remember. But my friends and I took a picture with him and wanted him to flash our sorority hand symbol because that was a thing back then ( ). First of all, he was game to do it, but he also gave us so much shite about it. He was like, “Can any of you actually recite the Greek Alphabet?” And, alas, none of us could, and we were all ashamed.
Good times.
Good times.

I’ve also seen him live in Nola and it was great. I’ve liked basically anything he’s ever done so I’m psyched about this new special. I’m a little concerned about the “pandemic” aspect of it based on the description but if it’s anything like his other specials I’ll love it. I actually think he’s a pretty genius level comedian. Bout to start it now actually.

The “Thats the way the world works” and “white womans instagram” bits were incredibly well done

White woman's instagram, brand consultant, Jeff Bezos, halloween costume, will anyone STFU a, etc....it all resonates.
eta: at least for the first half...almost every song touches on the many reasons why I permanently deleted social media.

Not familiar with this guy and I’m about 15 minutes in. Does he just sing songs about what he is doing the entire special? Is that his thing?

I think you will really like it.

I did recommend it to some people with the disclaimer that it's really heavy and don't go in expecting it to be a "haha very funny" comedy special. but as far as social commentary goes, I think it's a home-run.

It helps if you watch the first two specials he made when he was younger. His whole approach is like a much smarter and more original Weird Al and his social commentary is genius and perfect

His song about country music is hilarious every time
“Ah shite it’s a fricking scarecrow again”

You may not want to, but I would honestly start with his original YouTube stuff. He was basically a kid singing songs that were incredibly clever and smart. Then he had a 30 minute CC special when he turned 18. Then he had his first hour special (Words, Words, Words) which was great. Then he had “what” which was even better. Then “Make Happy” which is on the same level as “what.” And this is his new special.
I realize that’s quite a time commitment but it’s cool to see his maturation as a comic genius, and you could tell he was headed in that direction even when he was a teenager making silly songs in his bedroom.
I only watched about the first third of it earlier, but I liked it so far. It’s a little woke, but that’s how he is sometimes. And even the woke stuff is him lampooning the ridiculousness of some of it. I hope to finish the rest of it tonight or tomorrow.

This. He has a bit of a Chappelle/Carlin tinge to his comedy in that he has an ethos but he’s not above making fun of his own point of view, albeit in a more satirical fashion than the two I mentioned. He’s an equal opportunity comic, if that makes sense, but with less “I’m going to intentionally be a dick to everybody lulz” and more self deprecation.
Also, his writing is so good that it masks what an insanely talented musician he is. I have to watch his specials twice just to get past how impressive his production is the first time

I never would have associated those names with bo. hes extremely alt-talented but not in the same conversation as either of those names. bo is funny with heavy production included.
Bo's stuff can be very hysterical or very miss depending on how much tolerance you have for alternative musical-performative and cerebral kinda comedy. you just dont need the same level of attention and investment to enjoy Chappelle/carlin. they are funny outright.
