Electric vs Gas Leaf Blower

Have had an Echo Blower PB 250 for years. Love it. Very powerful. Has always started with a couple of pulls.
Recently, it may or may not start. Or, while on, it might pop and just shut off.
Not sure if it's worth having it repair or buy a new one. I can get a newer gas model shipped for $170.
Have an electric EGO trimmer and it's the best thing I've ever bought. EGO has a good battery powered model, but time isn't as high as others but it's very powerful.

What says the OB?

Try a new plug. Could also be a clogged spark arrestor.

I'm an advocate for replacing 2-stroke lawn equipment with electric, but that's just my opinion. Also my lawn isn't that big. I have the Ryobi stuff with multiple batteries (I also have Ryobi drill, portable compressor, etc.)

I love my Worx 40v blower for the quick jobs.... but it doe not replace a gas blower.

I just got rid of this one:
And bought this one:
The electric was OK but didn't have the power I needed.. The electric was an 18V not the 40V
Also.. The echo has a 3 year warranty. Not sure how old yours is.

Electric works well to just blow off a patio or something it the gas would probably be better if you use it for all yard work
I have both
I have both

I love my battery powered blower and my trimmer.
Those 2 cycle motors are just too hard to keep working when you only use them occasionally.

I have an echo battery powered weed eater. It can do anything I need it to do. No complaints at all. I also have a battery powered echo blower. Weak as water.

I just bought that same Echo gas blower last week after trying electric and hating it.
I bought a Dewalt electric because it accepted my 20v drill batteries, used it once and returned it that afternoon. I don't do a ton of blowing after cutting my grass but even still it went through both fully charged batteries before I could even finish, both batteries gave me about 3 minutes of run time and were hot as shite after I finished, that probably can't be good for their lifespan. Maybe the 40v setups would be much better off but I don't have power in my shed where my lawn equipment is kept and don't want to have to be charging batteries in my house so I went with a gas one.

Hell, can get this one in two days shipped for $169.98. An ol' baw around here that works on engine told me you have to use gas stabilizer like StarTron to keep it working properly.
The higher end battery powered ones like the EGO 650 CFM are powerful. I did have a battery die after warranty and they're not cheap. Got one on Ebay for ~$125 and it works great now.

I have a PB-250LN, excellent blower, if you are handy with small engine work then I'd tell you to fix it, they are pretty cheap to get parts for. That said a new one isn't that much and you get a 5-Year residential warranty.

For me, I can't even think about switching to electric because I mow & trim over 5 acres. And I have quite a few mature hardwoods that drop a ton of leaves.
So 2-3 times of powerful leaf blowing is much better than many times of using a weaker blower. I have so many leaves, that I end up just making big piles all over the yard and burning them right there.

You can typically get a new carb from eBay for $30-ish. If you’re not using it commercially that blower isn’t close to done.
Then start using Seafoam and it’ll be a long time before you have carb issues. That stuff is magic and a necessity for 2-strokes that get used sporadically. I’ve got Stihl chainsaws and a blower that might go 6 months between uses and they crank right up every time. Ethanol free gas and Seafoam.

I have a Ryobi 40v electric blower that goes along with the 40v weed eater. Both work very well for me.

FWIW: Wrote the review 9/8/18 and have since added the edger attachement and 4 more 5/ah batteries & a mower all Makita. Do not regret the purcase even a little bit.
Update: Anyone have experience with Makita cordless powerhead?Posted on 9/8/18 at 10:44 am

I'm looking at this for convenience along with a couple attachments.
Makita XUX01M5PT 18V X2 (36V) LXT Brushless Cordless Couple Shaft Power Head 5Ah Kit w/ String Trimmer Attachment
LINK
Thanks
I purchased the Makita powerhead with these attachments line trimmer, adjustable hedge trimmer, pole saw along with an additional extension. I also purchased their handheld blower too.
When I was a young man I owned a Landscape business. My 2 cycles were predominantly Stihl products & a few Echo machines. I also had a powerhead made by Maruyama it was a super strong machine.
Anyway to the Makita 36volt lawn equipment.
I have had the set for the majority of a year and figured I would provide some info. First off everything works very well compared to the equipment I have used in the past. The units are balanced pretty well. I have 6, 5ah batteries. The units are as strong as any 2cycle commercial unit I have owned. I have used the units throughout the time I have had them, lawn work/grass is a year round thing here. I have taken down a couple large trees on my property with the pole saw, super impressed. The line trimmer is also very capable blows through tall brush with ease, my property backs up to a church owned field. They don't take care of their fence line. I sent the adjustable hedge trimmer back, I'm guessing they intended that for trimming brush/line trimmer style I replaced it with the non adjustable hedge trimmer. Battery life works ok, I can't get through everything with one set. I use the line trimmer for edging plant beds as well as trimming one set of batteries w/charge left over when I'm done. I use a new set of batteries on the blower, both machines have charge left over but the blower certainly uses more power. I purchased a new gas edger before I purchased the Makita equipment lol hindsight and stuff. I do like the equipment. I gave my brother my 2 cycle stuff but kept my old farm boss.

I never owned a gas blower but used them in my younger days when I worked with a friend doing lawn care. Obviously they were stronger and lasted longer but they were used e4-5 days per week and on 5-8 yards per day. For my house, my Milwaukee does great. I have a "big" yard for NOLA but it's still probably only 3k square feet and I just use it to blow off the decks and driveway, not the actual lawn. My trimmer works great too.

my ego battery failed after 3 years, a bunch of cells inside the pack failed, $250 for a new one
instead spent $500 for brand new stihl weedeater and blower that will last far longer than 3 years

I have a Stihl I bought over 30 years ago,it’s never been back to the shop not 1 time.Still has the original spark plug it came with.I only use it about once a week so not heavy use.
The secret,I guess,is to always put fuel stabilizer in the gas.

Get the EGO blower. I went to HD to pick a cheap RYOBI blower that was on sale for $99. They were out, so the manager offered me the EGO for the same price ($200) so I took him up on it. Man, I love that thing! Use it all the time and started bringing to my buddy's deer camp to blow the porch and fire pit area. He loved it so much he got one right away at full retail $200!
