After Saturdays games, This is a rec league,Single A all age groups, so I haven't found out what U this was. I am hoping it is like 6U or 8U.
I am writing to you today to clarify a rumor you may have heard regarding an incident yesterday involving a gun. Many of you may have heard that an umpire at one of the games on Saturday had a gun in his waistband and pulled the gun on a parent within the game field area. THIS IS UNTRUE. The incident occurred in the parking lot where a gun was shown by an umpire who was being followed to his car by an irate person. Please note that this behavior is not supported or condoned by PBSA and will not be tolerated, no matter the circumstances.
We, as a league, are still gathering information regarding this incident. We have begun to act and will be issuing discipline for the actions that led to the event as well. We are currently cooperating with the Town of Prosper and with the Prosper Police Department about this incident.
In closing, I cannot stress enough our code of conduct must be followed at every game. While I can appreciate the spirit of our fans, parents, players, and coaches, there is a right way and a wrong way to conduct behavior at games. There appears to have been a breakdown in behavioral conduct on all fronts in yesterday’s game. I ask that we please come together as a community and support each other, especially our children. The over-the-top aggression must end now. We, as a League Family and Community, have the power to promote the love of baseball by cheering and supporting our players, all players, on the field. The best way to accomplish this is to allow the head coach to request a clarification on a call or a ruling when any issues arise.
TL:DR Parent/Coach followed umpire to his car where he had to show his gun to get het parent/coach to back off.
Can't make this shite up.

Somebody come and get Brayden’s Dad.

Where was the umpire wrong? He showed him the gun, didn't point it at him. How much abuse was he supposed to take?

I sure with the Ump. Sports fan parents can be crazy.

Depends on how the "irate" person was acting. If they were going insane on the guy, spitting, ect than he de-escalated a possible bad situation. If it was just some moron yelling at him, it's an overreaction.

My HS wrestling coach did a part time gig reffing toy bowl football. Him and his brother were followed to their car after a game by some douche daddy who didn't like the way he called the game. Douche daddy found out what a broken nose feels like. My coach was getting apology phone calls all night from the other parents.

There isn’t enough money on earth you could pay me to umpire little league games and deal with the parents.
You could tell me the umpire had a gun on the field and was firing warning shots and I’d take his side.

Following an ump to his car is completely threatening and intimidating him. Even if it was just a moron yelling, the ump didn’t over react

Parents/Coaches have NO perspective. 6-8 year old baseball game. Focus on your coaching your kids fundamentals, not the outcome.

Baseball parents are the fricking worst

Somebody come and get Brayden’s & Jayden’s Dad as Brayden was out!
The umpire got it right.

Can’t have the umpire making bad calls if Braxxton is going to commit to LSU when he’s 15.

Braxxton already lost out on his LSU Scholly when the T Ball Coach wouldn’t start him in CF the first game of the season.

I knew a guy that umpired softball on the weekends who was beaten with a bat and left for dead in the parking lot after a game, and this was 30+ years ago when most parents had a modicum of perspective about their kids' leisure activities. I can't imagine how scary it is to umpire in today's travel ball culture.

ump was probably in the right, but i was taught don't show your gun until you have to use it. If you pull it, you should be ready to kill with it. Otherwise just state you are armed and that the other person needs to back off.

Our league recently issued a one-year facility ban to a parent that chased a referee (this was soccer) to his car.
shite is absolutely out of control, and every league is struggling to get officials because of it. We are paying $30 to call a one-hour youth league game and $45 for 90 min games, cash, and can't find enough umpires.
Having said that, if the ump showed the gun in his waistband while walking back to the car, seems like he must have had the gun either on his person or in his bag while on the fields (or in his bag stashed away in a stand or something) and that also is a really, really bad idea.
