Fairfield is 33-1 now in baseball this season.

I get they play in the MAAC and not really played any out of conference games, but to be 33-1 is amazing. What is even more amazing is they have swept 16 of 17 Doubleheaders.
They are currently 4 in RPI in Boyd's World, Division 1 Baseball has them as a 3 seed in Ft Worth and currently unranked.

Wait, every game they’ve played this season has been part of a double header? That’s insane. Is that a MAAC thing due to COVID?

Pretty unbelievable in baseball, regardless of conference.
Their SOS is 183 and they haven't played a single game vs a team with a top 50 RPI.
3 seed seems fair. I will be pulling for them.

JMU is 34-1 in softball and got a 3-seed as well.

Their arch nemesis Foulfield is not doing as well.

MAAC teams play four conference games each weekend consisting of back-to-back double headers. For example, Mounmouth and Fairfield would play two games on either Friday or Saturday, then turn around and play another doubleheader the next day.
They mixed in a handful of Wednesday double-headers in the middle of the season.
Most teams played a conference only schedule starting on March 20. They squeezed in a lot of games in only 7 weeks.

They either really know how to manage a pitching staff or have been riding their arms hard. Will be interesting to see how they do in the tournament.

Amazing that a team that high in RPI is projected as a 3 seed. Then again, their SOS sucks (151st by Warren Nolan), and so does their conference. Plus, their one loss is to a team with an RPI of 250+.
How is RPI calculated again? I don't see how their RPI is so high with such a bad conference. The next best team in the MAAC is 51st in RPI.

RPI is 25% win pct, 50% opponents win pct, 25% opponents opponents win pct
The likely reason this anomaly occurred is bc like someone else said most of the teams play a conference only schedule. There’s not enough non conference losses for the 75% of the RPI that consists of Fairfield’s scheduled opponents and their opponents

(assuming the schedule is balanced)

here's their home field... no regional bid for them
at 33-1, i'd have to give them a 2 seed if i were the committee
i went through all the conferences earlier and i would have 6 ACC, 9 SEC, 6 Pac 12, 5 Big XII, 4 Big Ten, 4 Conference USA, 3 American, 2 MWC, 2 Missouri Valley, 2 Big West, and 2 A-Sun

Lost first game in maac tourney. Gotta run table now.

If you're an annual one-bid league that decided to play a conference-only schedule, you should have also decided to make your regular season champion the auto bid team, IMHO.
