Are there basements in Baton Rouge?

Saw some mention of this old movie, Jeff Who Lives At Home, supposedly set in Baton Rouge. But the character lives in his mother's basement. I've never seen a basement in Southeast Texas or South Louisiana, unless you count the muddy crawlspace under old pier and beam houses.
Are there any home basements in BR or South Louisiana? I can't watch the movie if it's based on a lie.

I’ve never heard of one in a residential building

LSU has basements. All the buildings in the quad have them for the most part. Same for the buildings next to the stadium.
Some houses on highland road enter on 2nd level and exit to the back on the lower level so basement “like”

I’ve seen better basements in the quad.

Decent movie. Was a way for Jason Segel to take a break from “How I Met Your Mother”, which he didn’t love.

David Pollack can confirm at least one exists.

I’ve actually been in one and was surprised as hell. Bought something and went to go pick it up. It was on Claycut kind of across the school.

Set in Baton Rouge, and filmed in Metarie. Yeah, going to be a big no on the basement front. I guess the basement slacker is an easy trope. Considering the directors are both from New Orleans (Duplass Brothers), it seems like they would have known better.

Should've had him living in the garage apartment or maid's quarters.

Had a friend in Southdowns that had a basement. Covered by what looked like a heater grate.
He hid his weed down there...

I've always heard they're not popular bc of the water table making them leak too much.

There’s a few old garden district homes that have “basements” but are basically old cellars

Blue house near Camellia & Wisteria has one.

My garage is set in a hill about 4’... I get water draining through the cinder block when it rains a lot, like it has been last two weeks. Would not recommend.

The house I grew up in had a basement with tunnels connecting the old house on the property that was built in the 1880’s and another tunnel that led to nowhere really or the rest was filled in or collapsed because it ended about 200 feet from where it branched out. The main house that I grew up in was built in 1907 so I never really understood why the tunnels were there and the original owner who built the house had long been dead by the time my parents bought it so we never really got a definitive answer. It was always good fun to freak my friends or girlfriend out showing them the tunnels because everyone thought my house was haunted.
