Working for Waitr.

So, I have seen this mentioned on TD a few times and also just around the web in general. I have been working for Waitr since September of 2018. Not only just online but I've had lots of people ask me how much we make in person as well.
I was a graphic designer for a company for almost 11 years, got tired of where I was working, not what I was doing, and decided to go back to school. While I was in school I started working for Waitr simply because you have no schedule, no boss, no nothing. It was just convenient for me. You work when you want for as long or short as you want.
I hope this doesn't come across as some kind of recruitment pitch, I'm just giving my honest thoughts.
After working with Waitr for a while I decided to stop the schooling, as what I was going for (IT) I was already fairly well versed in and if I really wanted to learn more its all there for free online anyway. Now I still do graphic design because I love it, so I do it as a side gig doing commissions and random stuff for people.
Anyway, on to Waitr. I usually work from 7am-Dark (around 8-8:30pm). I usually work weekends as well, but usually not for that long unless there is just nothing going on to do otherwise. I do 25-30 deliveries a day, sometimes more. I make around $2,200 per week. I tell this to people that ask all the time and no one believes me.
I fill up my gas tank probably every 3 days on average. I get around 22mpg in my truck.
If you or someone you know is in need of work, they are always hiring and the only way you don't get hired is if you are a complete, supreme frick-up. And you can make damn good money doing it with no boss, no office, no schedule. You will be a 1099 independent contractor, so keep that in mind as far as taxes, benefits, etc go.

What happens when you get into a wreck with standard auto insurance that likely wouldn't cover the commercial use of your car or do you have special/commercial insurance?

Congrats on hitting your peak in life.

This sounds awful.

For what city? And how do you see automated vehicles/drones affecting the long term career trajectory of delivery drivers?
ETA: So you make roughly $25/hr and have limited time off. Also assuming 50mph average speed, with that much driving, you make roughly $0.52 per mile. Which is less than the $0.56 per mile reimbursement that you would get traveling for another company under Louisiana law.

Good info and good for you. Sounds like a solid deal.
There are many opportunities to make a decent living. People find it too easy to complain and be lazy and be a drain on our society. Glad you aren't one of those.

Seems like it wouldn't be worth it to put that much wear on your car every single day

This proves you can make whatever you want if people are willing to work.
Also, a quick question, with the lockdowns last year, etc....did you make noticeably more? Or really with the different restrictions, it really hasn't mattered due to the market being very high demand for delivery?

You are claiming $30/hr working for waitr?

So you make roughly $30 an hour before expenses. After gas, maintenance, taxes, etc I’d be surprised if you are clearing $15/hour. It’s not terrible, but you aren’t getting rich either.

(I'd work hours like if it was making me filthy rich though)

Yeah, I don't doubt OP is doing well like he says, but he also just said he works 65-70 hours on weekdays and admitted he works a few hours (~10 total?) on weekends, more if nothing is going on.
That's a lot of hours for $114k which also includes wearing your car down at a much faster rate + paying the full 15.3% in Medicare/SS taxes + going through a lot more gas than average.
All of that said, I'm sure the job itself is decent if you like to be alone and like to drive.
