Military baws, question for you
Just saw an army commercial where they made everything look like a glorified COD game where everyone is a super soldier. As people who actually went to the military, do you agree with these tactics? They already attract not the brightest in the word but to further create a delusion instead of reality? I feel the kids are getting lured into something they aren’t qualified for

First of all, you're asking people who you've just called "not the brightest" to tell you whether or not other people not you yourself are qualified to do what they've accomplished? You're awesome. Not a bit of pompus detected at all...

LoL. Every recruiting effort since Valley Forge.

Just had a flashback to those Valley Forge Military academy ads in the gay arse Boy Scouts magazine.

I'm way past this possibility, but can you become a doctor in the Army? Or do you have to get into it from med school, or have a med school undergrad track? Sorry for the ignorance.

One may enlist to be a “super soldier”, but someone can’t just sign up to be SF, PJ, TACP, Seal, Ranger, or anything like that and if the recruiter just motions the sign of the cross and says “congrats, you’re now a Ranger”, then that’s a problem. The above individuals in those career fields either have been wanting to do it their whole life or are a little bit older when they jump in. BUT, there is an age group of physically gifted 25yo’s out there who have no idea what they wanna do with their lives. They see the commercials and say “hey I can do that...and it’s a fun career”. A lot of ops guys come from this group.

Do you know much it costs to ramp a M1 Abram or create a digital fire breathing monster to fight a Marine?

COD made the recruiters job so easy.

COD was started as a USMC game.

The real scum in Recruiting are not the recruiters themselves, but the Guidance Counselors at MEPS. When I commanded a recruiting company I had countless deps that had their contracts locked in by my recruiters only to have some piece of shite guidance counselor change the entire contract at MEPS, causing them to be resentful.

You remember the Army Game that came out in 2003 that was developed as a squad training simulation?

Full Spectrum Warrior. That was the shite when I was on deployment. Also the Desert Storm game was awesome too.

America's Army. Pretty funny stuff. I think you basically just walked around.

Looks like they've updated it. On steam And PS4 now.

You either join right before med school or right after med school. (If you join before med school, you’re technically a reserve officer for your 4 years in school.)

You get sent to an officer training program that is nothing like regular officer training program. Don’t even think there are strict physical fitness requirements.

In any case, a lot of doctors do it to pay for med school.

When choosing a branch, consider this:

for most situations,

In the Air Force, the enlisted ranks prepare the Officers to go out and fight and face the most risk

In the other branches, it is the other way

Incorrect. You can literally get any of those pipelines in your contract off the street.

If you think that’s how it works, then you I have mountain front property to sell you in Thibodeaux. These titles are earned after years not just signing up.

I have no idea what the rest of your generalized statement is supposed to mean. It’s a pretty diverse military.

A common theme throughout Basic Training and AIT is "congratulations your recruiter lied." It is a numbers game and they will do what they have to get as many as they can in. You also see people who make you wonder how the hell they made it out of MEPS to get shipped off to Basic Training. There was this guy they picked up and was about 275 lbs and fat and I am like why would you even send him? There was also a dude who you could tell did not have the mental capacity necessary, even for the Army which is really sad. They both didn't make it past improcessing along with a few others. I have heard stories from people I know who have recruited and it not fun and the pressure they are under to hit their numbers is intense. Your assertion that they do not attract the brightest is not totally accurate. Sure there are some idiots in our ranks ,but there are also some really smart people within the ranks as well. Also no one is really "qualified" to be in the military, that is why you receive alot of training.

Thats why the Air Force is the hardest to get in.
There are a few of us USAF vets in here. Most of my time was spent in Alaska in an accounting office with these women between the ages of 20 to 30 I would do it all over again if given the chance.

I take it you're not a veteran! What...you were to bright to serve? Your grammatical effort to convey your thoughts tell me you're not so bright, yourself.
But tell me, if you're life is on the line while in a firefight with hostiles, would you want an academic scholar to be by your side or a courageous S.O.B. who will give you his or her all?

Speaking for Army medicine...
quote:

Correct. Depending upon what you are pursuing in medicine, it is either the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences or the Health Professional Scholarship Program during school or loan repayment afterwards.
quote:

You get sent to an officer training program that is nothing like regular officer training program.
Partially correct.
quote:

Don’t even think there are strict physical fitness requirements.
Incorrect.
quote:

Correct.
