Saw on Instagram this morning, and the account tailgatelsu does a fun top 10 LSU position players and units. Today he brought up Ciron Black. He holds the record for career starts at LSU (53) playing left tackle. Went undrafted and unsigned. Injury?

I think he had a degenerative knee condition.

Injury. Had purchased insurance but had to sue to collect. I’m not sure what came of the lawsuit.

He got red flagged at combine for medical reasons, IIRC his knees were shot.

But yes, very underrated played at LSU people forget a lot. It's ridiculous to start 4 years at LT anywhere.

Remember he followed Whitworth here at LSU, who also started 4 years at LT.

Here we go

He hurt his knee late in 2009 season against Bama, and doctors determined it was a career ender basically.

Interestingly enough, he must have thought it wasnt a big deal at the time, because he played and started the last 4 games that season after the Alabama game. Which probably didnt help his situation.

I spent some time with him watching a bowl game that we won. Awesome guy. But he seemed very depressed about his situation. Really he should've had a professional career. Sad deal - I hope he's well.

if i recall he was one of the players that blamed the LSU medical team for misdiagnosis/care.

In the end, he had a terrible combine. He tried, but he couldnt move well enough.

If I recall, he had an injury while at LSU, and it was either mis-diagnosed or maybe he got bad advice. He continued to play on it, which further degenerated a knee that was already susceptible to problems. The knee would have hurt his draft stock regardless, but the injury made it so that there was no way he could play in the NFL.

He had to sue the insurance to collect (not sure he ever got it or not). I feel for the guy. He had the talent to play in the NFL.

He is one of the big reasons LSU became 3 and out U. He came back for his sr year and purchased an insurance policy that turned out to be worthless. Not sure what his injury was but he never played again. Since then numerous players left at first opportunity for the draft

I met him at a bar in Midtown Houston about 6 years ago. He could not have been a nicer guy. We sat and talked about all things LSU for almost an hour.

Back in 2014, there was an article saying he works for the Houston Astros in the sales and business development department.

Les Miles lied to him about his injury, and unless Ciron lied to me that's what happened. Used to live in the same building with him. Dude was always nice as can be.

I believe he ruptured his patella tendon during that Alabama game and he was never right again. Real shame because he was a nice guy and a very good LT. He would have had a 10 year career in the NFL.

I think he was a top 3 LT going into '09 along with Oher and Andre Smith of Bama.

Ciron was a great LT.

We had only 2 LTs from '02 - '09 with him and Whitworth.
