Texas metro areas have well exceeded the 10-city average of 26.1%, with Dallas, Houston and Austin at 41.2%, 39.3% and 38.8%, respectively. The cities rely mostly on cars, rather than mass transit, where COVID-19 is easily spread, to get people to work, Ein and Leonard say.

At the other end of the spectrum, San Francisco and San Jose are at 14.2% and 17.4% of pre-crisis office visits, in part because they’re high-tech hubs where companies and their workers were used to telecommuting even before the health crisis, Ein says.

I've been back in the office full time since July of 2020, but if you can do your work remotely, we even go back into the office

we've had a DE occupation since December and everyone still shows up at the office anyways. Our office building just decided to STRONGLY encourage masks instead of requiring it. Haven't been wearing a mask in our building the entire time

I guess.

Watching Bloomberg this morning, they announced that Goldman Sachs will have its workers back in the office by mid June.

I can't wait until everyone is back at work instead of "working from home"

It cramps my 46 and retired lifestyle.

We just transitioned back in April. Most of us (including me) are 50% wfh going forward. Our office dynamics are changed. There is no real need for me to be in office full time.

I’m in DFW area and traffic is still worlds better then before pandemic for rush hour.

What is the need to be in the office at all?

I absolutely hate WFH. We switched to 50/50 on-site in October. Yesterday I got the go ahead to come back full-time on-site, but most others are still 50/50. Do enjoy the traffic. So there's that.

I would hazard to guess that the cities, i.e. Houston, Dallas, etc. are quietly incentivizing companies to require their employees to come back. Need those sales tax revenues.

I was 50% from home before the "pandemic". Now I go into the office only when it's absolutely necessary.

Yes! We need more people burning fuel.

I mean, there is an entire economy in those downtowns that need people working in the offices.

I love WFH, but I accept that it is going to come to an end soon.

I don't mind working in the office, I just hate the commute. It sucks the soul dry.

I’ve been told we’re probably not going back. Other than missing the social reasons of shooting the breeze during lulls in the day, I’m fine with this. I hate the commute, and I can get everything done at home that I could in the office.

If people could drive, I would feel differently.

We've had several restaurants around here that have gone out of business since they relied heavily on lunch crowd from businesses. One was my favorite Mediterranean place.

I work in real estate development/management and some of the partners said the same thing 8-10 months ago. Now as leases are expiring and tenants either aren't renewing or drastically downsizing due to remote workers the partners are seeing the "fad" isn't a fad at all. It's great for the bottom line if workers are happier at home and company doesn't have to pay out the arse for rent/taxes/insurance/operating expenses for office space.
