It's great for the bottom line if workers are happier at home and company doesn't have to pay out the arse for rent/taxes/insurance/operating expenses for office space
My company is pushing WFH for that reason. They just let the lease lapse on our biggest office area in the area. 1000’workers now get to use hoteling for their office when they go to campus

In your opinion what is soon?

Houston traffic says this is accurate.
Indeed sir
Hopefully the WFH trend will lead some workers / employers to figure out different schedules.
Such as log in and work from home from 7 - 11, get into office for like 12 - 4 or something to alleviate traffic to some degree.

quote:It makes sense from a money saving perspective. When renting class A office space at $30-$40/sf in big cities + $10-$15/sf in operating expenses it's expensive.

It's unfortunate for someone in my business, but I'm seeing major companies (Wells Fargo/NYLife/Auto Owners/Synovus) literally wait out the lease expirations or come back to negotiation a 75% downsizing of leased sqft because their workers are mainly remote.

I don't mind working in the office, I just hate the commute. It sucks the soul dr
We're transitioning from 100% at home to 25% in office. basically 1 week in the office on a 4 week rotation.
That stands to be our new permanent policy for our department going forward. I can dig it.
But I don't think I would like to ever work 100% in an office again.

I will not work 100% in an office ever again. If the firm I'm at now told us it'd be asses back in seats I'd find a new job.

My company just announced that they will be doing a hybrid model come June
I'll still be in office 100%, but there a plenty of people in my company that don't need to be in an office everyday

I’ve been in the office everyday during this thing.
I am in commercial construction and maintenance and visit a lot of of the office buildings downtown and throughout the metroplex as well. I’ve seen some places be back to 80% capacity and some still totally empty. Primarily big national brands that aren’t back yet.

So more traffic and fuel costs. Fun!

I’m in DFW area and traffic is still worlds better then before pandemic for rush hour.
Can confirm. I use to have to plan around rush hour in the morning, I dont have to anymore.
My company has already started leaving the breadcrumbs of WFH being somewhat of normalcy. I've already indicated to my Manager I will be WFH unless project testing is needed.
A lot of people with the Boomer mentality of needing to see someone in front of a monitor from 9-5 will struggle with next-gen workplace.

I’m sure you could debate this, but don’t you think this would be the happy medium?
It’s not one extreme or the other, you come in for a couple of days and you work from home a couple of days. It’s an ideal balance.

Respectfully disagree, companies have learned they can save millions of dollars on cube/office space rentals, utilities, parking spaces, etc by keeping employees at home. Its been instant revenue/savings without having to chop heads.
Sure if you face customers, that’s different, but the commercial real estate market will be different forever. I don’t see the 8-5pm butts in seats ever coming back like it was pre-covid.

I'm fine with it all. It doesn't personally bother me where people work, as long as they are available and get their work done
My boss, however, hates not having everyone here
Do I miss the ease of just walking down the hall to ask someone a question, which sometimes is quite complex, sure? but I think we have all become pretty efficient with Teams, so its not so bad anymore
I come to the office because my wife and 2 year old are home and I can't get shite done with them around

Outside a handful of states, if you are currently working from home, I don't see how you will ever be back full time at your current job. Places have been back to full office time for a year if they chose to be.

Yea our division already indicated they'll be subletting like 1/3 of our office space
I think it's been hinted 3 days in the office as a "hybrid" model

Yeah my six year old will be home this summer with no school. He gets some summe camp but there are six weeks where I am WFH this summer. It’ll be just him and I during day (wife works full time in office and 4 year old is in full summertime program).
Not looking forward to that. It will suck

last summer when I was WFH, having a 2 year old, 7 year old and wife at home and no dedicated office space (I was on the dining room table) was rough
I ended up working early mornings and nights a lot

Maybe they will struggle so much that they will retire.
