Use a broker. I'll never step foot in a dealership again. They will bring the cars to you to test drive. they will handle all of the bullshite. Tell them what you can afford and what you want, they'll do the rest.

Well worth the money.

Just go to carmax if you're cool with paying for no hassle

What the frick did y’all test drive 5 vehicles for?

Wife wasn't 100% sure what she wanted and we needed something relatively quick because of the issues with her vehicle.

if you know what you want, you can do like 90% of the bullshite through email

every car I've bought through a dealership has taken like 30 minutes at the actual dealership

I don't know why people are giving you grief about test driving 5 different vehicles

people will try on 8 different pairs of jeans, but act like test driving multiple vehicles makes you a pain in the arse

I think it can be, but I just don't play their bullshiat any more.

Bought the wife's minivan in 30 minutes to an hour. We dealt with someone before coming in. We brought a check. They did drag their arse on paperwork and whatnot, but we told them we had to be out by x oclock.

Same with my truck. I dealt with the online sales guy. I decided to trade my truck in instead of selling it, so the only loose end was for them to check it out. But they agreed to the price they quoted, and I already had a bank check with me.

But yeah, car dealerships can suck donkey balls. Just tell me what the price is, why does the price I pay depend on how well I negotiate?

No you didn’t. You went with her while she bought it.

Buying a new cell phone has become almost as annoying as closing on a mortgage. Unbelievable how much time it takes.

This. Why does it take an hour to purchase a phone? What could the AT&T rep POSSIBLY be doing on the tablet for 45 minutes?

You have to be willing to shut them down when the bullshite starts. You cannot be passive with these people. This is helpful if you have your own financing set or paying cash.

I paid cash for a truck 2 months ago.

This was known. Our biggest issue was the price.

They knew I drove 5 hours to see it so they tried using that as leverage.

As soon as I had been there for 30 min I said.....here's my #, I'll be staying at a hotel tonight. If you want to sell a truck you've got til 11 am the next day.

At 10 am they got close. I said no.

At 11 I texted and asked if they got closer because I just finished breakfast and would be leaving.

They said no, so I left. Told him I left. 20 min later he calls and says we have a deal. I said now you're gonna have to go 200 lower for wasting my time as I already left.

Done.

Tldr

So you test drove 5-6 vehicles, yet you’re complaining about it taking too long? I have no issue with test driving as many vehicles as you need to so you can confirm you’re getting the right one, but that’s not the dealerships fault, that’s YOURS. Typical liberal democrat though. Can’t ever shoulder any responsibility, it’s always someone else’s fault

One should always lease a car IMO.

Most people think of “lease” like a house though. Leasing a car is completely different.

In the process now too. Test drove probably 6 Saturday. Wife settles on one but there aren’t any within Louisiana. Closest one is Florida but it’s the wrong color. There are a few that I’ve found at about 500 miles away.

As soon as they realize you're not playing it, they are happy to get down to brass tacks and get you done and out the door.

No matter what type of deal I get. I always feel like the minute I walk out of the door they're all laughing at me for being a sucker.

Last few cars I’ve purchased have had price agreed before walking in. But then again, I knew the exact make and model I wanted. Test driving 5 cars the day you intend to purchase is ridiculous.

Just pay whatever they want, tell the wife you got a deal, and bitch about it over some beers with your friends. Easier to pay the cost than to convince the wife that wanting a specific color cuts your negotiation nuts off.

This is also true Those big dealerships don't build themselves, much in the same way as the casinos in Vegas.
