WWL TV News
A boat has capsized South of Grand Isle. Sounds like a jack up barge. Not much word yet.
I know we have some posters in the Gulf of Mexico. Any word on the radios?
Anyone near a VHF in Grand Isle?
NEW ORLEANS — A 256-foot commercial lift boat capsized south of Grand Isle.
The US Coast Guard and several good Samaritan vessels are responding and working to rescue those who were onboard, according to the USCG Heartland.
The US Coast Guard in Houston confirmed that assets from Texas are on their way to assist, including a search plane from Corpus Christi.
This is a developing story, stick with WWLTV.com and watch the Eyewitness News at 10 for the latest information.

I’m out on a drill ship but the weather was insane earlier. I’ve been in bad weather before out here but this was crazy. It felt we were in a hurricane for at least an hour
I could easily see something like that happening to a smaller vessel

Im about 80 miles south of Houma right now. Its pretty rough out here. Sustained 55 knot winds. Watching a massive shrimp boat disappear in the swells.

It's a 265 Class Lift Boat...not a 265' boat.

We found 7 out of the 17 people on the boat. Still searching!

It's the SEACOR Power - 265 Class lift boat.
I read on facebook it has 18 crew members onboard. Hope they are all recovered safely.

Do you know what their status was when they flipped? Traveling? Jacking up? Stationary?

By tracking the vessel on vesselfinder it shows it was underway. It had just left port of fourchon about 2 hours prior to its last gps position reporting which was about 4 hours ago.

There was a gust of 112mph south of Grand Isle, too.

I was watching the squall line push thru that area on radar around 4pm. It looked brutal. Hopefully they find them all, looks like they rolled pretty close to pass, so plenty of help available.

Classic way to flip a lift boat. Go to sea two hours before a storm hits. Those things are so top heavy in heavy seas.
Nuts. Lloyd’s is getting ready to write some big checks.

There's a meteorologist sweating his job if they left a couple of hours before than line moved offshore.

Prayers for you all.
I saw the weather down there late this afternoon and it looked viciously rough.
I'll join the other folks who are not surprised to see the phrase Good Samaritan Boats who are assisting.
