Just curious howlong does it take for the jacks to go down? Would there be enough time to deploy them in a pinch or is it too slow or too much risk with subsea surface
.

It’s tough to jack down in rough seas. The area they are in has pipelines beaucoup on the bottom,so yes there is subsea risk’ involved.

Gotcha. Was thinking more of being less top heavy but being that shallow there it may not have helped

A jack up rig is dangerous under even normal weather conditions. The are not meant to ever be sea going vessel, or deal with bad weather even once jacked up.

As many years, and storms I encountered offshore the worst was 10mi out of Fourchon. shite gets dicey around there. Shallow water depths, and still vulnerable to the weather..

Prayers to those still unaccounted for.

Have you been monitoring Facebook?

Do you maybe have an update you could provide on that capsule that you posted.?

Thanks for adding that to the thread. To all the other posters that have contributed with pictures, ship info, locations, etc.

Though we are unable to confirm due to a lack of reliable offshore buoy data with actual wave heights, our computers estimate wave heights in the range of 45-50' off the LA coast. While extreme, it does show the incredibly rough conditions offshore today.

Yes.

But you know you want your arse miserable inside of that capsule instead of the other options.

That jackup had no business being underway with those seas. Just put pads down and jack it up 20 feet and resume tomorrow. Praying all are safe.

It don’t work like that baw.
Area has to be surveyed for bottom
Obstruction/pipeline/contour. Vessel has to preload so it doesn’t punch through. Even if all that was disregarded, those kind of seas would result in a broke leg or pad.

I have not heard anything. Tuned in to Channel 16 on marine radio earlier but it was silent. Thought it was odd with all the activity offshore today.

Took a wind reading around an hour ago and we had 40mph sustained and gust up to 54. Swells are in the 12-14ft area.

Don't need to preload if you just clear above wave height and not extend the legs all the way. Also, would you rather sink the vessel and kill crew members and not exhaust all options.

You can’t have a 50ft wave in 70ft water.

They’re probably seeing the LOOP noaa buoy data, which is currently knocked stupid by weather or malfunctioning.

We also need to talk about the 40fters rolling up on dulac. Probably got this data from some eye witness reports from some guys in center consoles.

God bless those on board, and those trying to rescue the people. As having been an offshore person, that is your worst fear!

Damn, that’s rough seas for a lift boat. And from what I’ve known from seacorp, they’ve always been on top of watching the weather.
